View Full Version : Requesting build advice

Since earth stance was called out as 'sucking' several times, I thought I'd post here to share my build. I have a habit of playing unorthodox characters. The multiclassed battlecleric after headstart before they became 'accepted.' The lightning/acid caster before they became standard. And now, the earth stance monk. And do I use kamas? Hell no, I use handwraps. And why? Because IMHO, I deal more damage with handwraps than I do with any other weapon. And why is that? 4 words: Stunning Fist and Blow.

Race: Dwarf
Class: Pure Monk

STR: 26
Dex: 19
Con: 32
Int: 12
Wis: 25
Cha: 7

HP: 564
Fort: 100%
DR: 6/-
Saves: All 25+
AC: Low(Around 46 if I recall correctly, but stunned mobs don't fight back)

Base Save DC for SB: 20(28 w/ Weighted 4%)
Base Save DC for Trip: 20(30 w/ Vertigo +10)
Save DC for US: 25
Save DC for SF: 25

My primary weapon is +3 Frost Hand Wraps of Weighted 4%

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, but IMHO a stunned mob that the entire party gets free crits on is WAAAAAAAY more DPS than you other monk's glorified sickles!

Please give advice without changing the theme of the character.

...could be a little higher for stunning fist and unbalancing strike. Your trip DC is good (with the vertigo item), and your SB DC will be OK if you can find weighted 5% handwraps.

Understand when I say "good" and "OK", I mean that they will land more often than they will not; you may still find the success rate to be less than satisfactory. That, however, is entirely subjective, so I'll leave it at that.

Tagging for future reference and easier finding for me. ;)

Toughness on Khyber

Earth Stance doesnt suck, I actually like it and use it, espcially when I have to be a block tank. Its just not the most optimal stance for monks, Water and Wind IMHO are the top two stances.

being different is good, its how we learn and being dorf you would definately be amongst rare company.
