Hi folks,

This is my first attempt at a bard so I might be completely missing the point as I'm trying to kill to birds with one stone. I want a spellsinger/buffer/secondary healer that uses heavy repeaters and at 16 I want to respec feats and enhancements a little to be a hagglebot, but still be a useful group asset with near max song buffage and ok repeater DPS.

Why heavy repeaters? I've never really played a ranged character before and it seemed more fun than creating another TWF melee. Plus I'm keen to see what can be done with rapid shot, rapid reload, ic: ranged, haste and ftr haste boost. :)

Why no spell cc specialisation? He has heighten which is great at lower levels until SR becomes an issue at which time he'll probably drop it. Fascinate is where its at really. Its non-dispellable, not subject to SR, lasts ages. Not really an expert on bard spells though. If there are some good options in there (crushing despair might be), it might warrant a re-think but at the moment its not speaking to me.

Spellsinger? A little different to the hordes of warchanters out there. I really appreciate it on my caster and it seems to make hound and vod easier on the resources. Not set in stone.

Would appreciate your esteemed feedback, o' masters of lute and mandolin. :)

Dodgee B'Stard
True Neutral Human Brd15/Ftr1

Stats (32 point)
12 Str +6 item = 18 Str
14 Dex +1 gtr human adapt, +6 item, +3 shroud weap = 24 Dex
14 Con +6 item = 20 Con
08 Int
08 Wis
18 Cha +4 level, +2 bard enhancement, +1 human adapt, +6 item, +3 shroud item, +2 tome = 36 Cha

I've only included the favor tome here as I don't have a ready source of +1/+2 tomes. They seemed to drop like candy around me but I never pull them, lol. The only problem with the dex/cha split is I have to craft 2 shroud weapons, probably a lightning II heavy repeater w exceptional +3 dex for repeater mode and a blah blah w exceptional +3 cha for spellcasting/buffing/healing mode. Ouch.

Feats (pre-16)
1st: Rapid Reload
1st (human bonus): Extend
2nd (ftr bonus): Exotic Weapon: Heavy Repeater
3rd: Point Blank Shot
6th: Heighten
9th: Rapid Shot
12th: IC: Ranged
15th: SF: Haggle

At 16 I'd probably swap out Heighten for Negotiator to max out haggle. Although I'm a big fan of heighten, without spell pen, gtr spell pen & spell pen enhancements it probably isn't gonna help me land cc a lot at endgame. Although definitely useful until that time. Besides, I've got non-dispellable, no-sr, uber-fascinate anyway. :)

Armor Class
Don't overly care about it. Will use a mithral chain or shirt and buckler (for occasional swashbuckling action) at low levels, then switch to robes at high levels. Will use diplo to dump aggro on the party cleric. :)

Skills
19 Haggle (2 pts from ftr level in haggle)
18 Concentration
18 Diplo
18 Jump
18 Perform
18 UMD

Why no bluff? The only practical application I can think of (aside from use in combat, ha ha) is NPC dialogues and I should be able to get most of them with cha bonus and bluff item alone? Balance is the only one on my want list, and I'd have to drop 2 pts of str into int for it. Not sure, maybe that is a good option. Obvious highlights are haggle and umd.

Haggle (post-16 re-organisation, pre-16 subtract 11 for no negotiator/enhancement/skill boost)
19 ranks
13 cha
15 item
5 feats (negotiator, sf: haggle)
4 enhancement
2 head of good fortune
4 GH
5 HV skill boost
=====
67 Haggle

Probably is higher through shroud item, friendly bard song, alchemical pots blah blah but if I'm around 67-70 I'll be happy.

UMD
18 ranks
13 cha
3 golden cartouche
2 head of good fortune
4 GH
=====
40 UMD

High enough for heal scrolls (not sure for raise dead) again can be higher as noted above.

Hit points
Enough to not get one-shotted, hopefully not two-shotted before I can heal myself. :)

Spell points
900-1000ish w plain old magi item, enough to do some buffing and a lil healing

Saving throws
I only worry about these if I'm a frontline fighter or intending to solo a lot, so I'm just gonna say they're uber and leave it at that. :)

Enhancements (pre-16)
Fighter Haste Boost 1
Extra Song 2
Inspired Attack 3
Inspired Damage 3
Lingering Song 2
Spellsinger 1
Human Adaptability Charisma
Human Adaptability Dexterity
Concentration 2
Lyric of Song 1
Song Magic 3
Energy of the Music 3
Charisma 3 (drop to 2 when shroud item is crafted)

Enhancements (post-16 gimpness)
Fighter Haste Boost 1
Extra Song 1
Inspired Attack 3
Inspired Damage 2
Lingering Song 1
Spellsinger 1
Human Adaptability Charisma
Human Adaptability Dexterity
Human Versatility 4
Concentration 2
Haggle 4
Lyric of Song 1
Song Magic 2
Energy of the Music 2
Charisma 2

Oh and I forgot... the reason for the 1 ftr level as opposed to straight bard...

1 free feat to make the level 16 feat re-spec less painful
Ftr haste boost, my experiences with this have been great with a melee, want to test with a ranged toon
Access to better weapons should I pick up something rad
+1 BAB
+2 fort save (I know I said I didn't care but it can't hurt either)
Get med/heavy armor and shields/tower shields too but can't think of a reason to use at the moment. Maybe if he picks up skyvault or spellvault or whatever its called.

In exchange he misses out on 6th level bard spells at 16. He will pick them up when the cap goes up and still be eligible for 7th level spells at 20 (if the spell level progression remains the same). Can anyone think of anything else hes missing out on? Is there an uber 20th level ability for bards?

"Famous Face"....Causes Tavern owners to not only actually pay you to perform, they pay you what you demand, and give you a dressing room.

( I am also hoping other Bardic folk respond to this thread too, those who know what they're doing, unlike me!)

Lol, I was thinking of getting the "Outrageous demands" feat but turbine, for some reason, wouldn't give me a pony-riding half-orc druid sidekick! How unreasonable is that? :D

GURPS Advantages are kind of like D&D Feats. There's one called "Bardic Reputation" or "Bardic Immunity." It means the king is unlikely to have your character slapped in irons for mentioning the booger dangling from his nose during the banquet.

But in reality I have no idea because my highest level Bard is 4.

We Bards are always too busy playing during that time whilst the Royal Hors d'ovres are being consumed.

*bump* Any thoughts o' bard masters? Good? Bad? Completely indifferent? :)
