View Full Version : QOL (Quality of Life) Ideas

Okay basically Quality of Life ideas are those that are not game breaking, bugs, broken, or fixes. These would be enhancements to the game that would probably most likely take place in spare developer time (ha!)

So to start with some of the common things:
A search feature in the Auction House in addition to the level filter and buyout only options
A way to auto-sort our inventory by level, value, or type of item.
Teleports to Meridia

Those are just a few I can think of at the moment that I'd like to see "worked on" at some point.

Out of curiosity wouldn't that type of system cause some pack issues when looting things where some pack slots are reserved for items your currently wearing and then the game says your inventory is full?

The absolute best for me would be something mentioned often before, the .txt file inventory + bank export. That would be incredibly useful. I'm sure the addition of the bags would increase the complexity of this but it would be such a convenience/time saver.

Another great thing would be a freeform persistant scribble/notepad where we could jot down stuff that is character pertinent. (Swg made a .txt file in the character folder and was really nice.)

Fix the display issues, like showing the actual crit range on my weapon once I obtain Improved Crit feat, instead of the crit range it's always had, scaring me into thinking I didn't pick up the feat the next time I logged on.

I've said before that I'd love to see a character sheet/inventory export feature. To expand a bit I'd like to see each inventory item include all effects, i.e. Alignment, if it's a seeker weapon what the mod is, what the damage is on puncture, etc.

With that info, in a .txt file using a similar format for each inventory item, I can build a Character Portfolio database and eventually a program to generate "trade lists" to shuffle goodies between my alts, run "equipped item" simulations, etc.

Ability to export logs, especially the combat log. This just doesn’t seem that hard to do and would be very handy to go back and review to see just how good (or bad) my build is doing. D&D is all about numbers and I want to be able to go back and review what happened, crunch the numbers, and see the results of changes.

Have an in game clock with Stormreach time. This would be very handy for setting up meetings and events as you would not need to take into account the time zones of the various players. Much easier on everyone involved to just say "Meet at the Rusty Nail 8:00 pm SRT" then trying to figure out what time zone the poser is in vs your time zone..

how about a pack system that tries to return LOCKED items to packs 2+...
and anything new, unlocked tries to go in pack 1..
or, a system that sorts locked items to packs 2+ and unlocked items to pack 1

no?

I'd love to see a way to access the forums THROUGH the game instead of currently minimizing. That would be real cool to me.

I also wish that there was a character planner that you could use at the trainers so you could toy around with some options when you level instead of having to do it out of the game and go back in with a plan.

Select the help option from the menu. Click on something like Report A Bug, which opens an embedded Internet Explorer control within DDO. It opens on a ddo.com website with the regular navigation bar, including links to the forum.

That method isn't as convenient as you'd like, because it's non-resizable and it cannot be taken out the front of the UI without closing the browser and losing your place.

A toggle that makes it so i cast heal spells on myself even when i have undead targeted.
Ability to mail multiple items and more money in a single mail.
Failing that. Ability to delete all messages from my normal inbox.
Timestamp on each line in the chat log. Probably best to make this toggle-able.
In game clock.
Sort options for my skill page. By governing stat. By Ranks. By total modifier. By name.
Make it so a new characters UI is layed out the same way as the last character you played. Or give us a 'set current UI to default' option.

that should be pretty "easy" change to implement with a UI element change. Reface the buff the npc window to look similar to the train enhancement window so it looks like a file tree. Add checkable boxes with a total at the bottom and a "buy or buff" button to confirm the purchase.

Heck it could even look like a tavern/shop UI window where the spell icons are clickable and fill a tray at the bottom. :) Replace NPC buff animations with a static "You've got buffs graphic" and be done with it.

AWESOME idea nad plan layout should be easy to code always a pain to buy buffs 1 at a time.

My personals would be the teleporters should port you to the harbor for 1 i know it's a small thing but porting to the marketplace and waiting for the loading bar then turning around clicking harbor for another loading bar really irks me.

Also adding meridia to the teleport list and maybe necropolis along with adding them to the teleport spell list and hopefully greater teleport.

I second the send multiple items in mail and more money per mail thing i don't care if it costs more than mailing 1 thing at a time it is very annoying and shouldn't be imo.

Locking task bars so they actually lock and not so they lock after an item is removed from them and you can't remember what it was even tho the bar was supposedly locked alrdy.

Siberius dragonshards fragments have an add all button in the stone so you can just put however many you have and click combine and get whatever you could out of it instead of 1 set at a time.

thats all i can think of for now i'll be back when my brain wakes up

I'd really like to see the hotbars have more options other than just lock, horizontal, and vertical. I'd like to be able to scale hotbars individually to make the icons larger or smaller depending on the hotbar they are in. I'd also like an in game ability to set transparency for all UI elements on the fly.

A lot of people ask here and there about shared bank slots.

A way to implement this could be (I think the bank is 5 slots across) to have an additional 5 slots below the characters initial bank page. Bound items could not be placed into this slot. I think this could go a long way to making people happy while not overdoing storage space.

In addition to the LFM panel it would be awesome if we could have use of game wide communications.

For instance the channels restrictions could be locked down to level ranges.

Create your character you have access to (your specific class(or classes) channels plus access to communicate game wide to everyone within level range 1 - 3.

Upon hitting level 4 you can now communicate in channels 1-3 and 4 to 7.
Level 8 would open up 1-3,4-7, and 8 to 11.
Level 12 would then grant you 1-3,4-7,8-11, and 12-15
Level 16 would give you access to all level appropriate channels up to levels 16-19.
Level 20 would have access to all channels.

This would go along way for helping foster the community as a whole as you would be able to chat / communicate with people outside your group, zone, instance, quest, raid, etc. People would be able to ask questions more freely and get feedback quickly from the player base. Finding a group may be easier as you could say in channel 4-7 Level 5 such n such looking for a group in addition to using /lfg.

These channels could be accessible using a slash (/) command and the bindings could be retouched to how you see fit. But these would be default
/1 (levels 1-3 channel)
/2 (levels 4-7)
/3 (levels 8-11)
/4 (levels 12-15)
/5 (levels 16-19)
/6 (level 20)

These could be rebound to any keys you'd like.

Example text:

Imanewplayer says in 1-3 (1): Hey guys I'm a new player and I'm trying to figure out how to inscribe a spell.

/1 You should have an inscribe icon on your hotbar, if not go to your character sheet, feats, then look for it. Looks like a quill and ink well. Drag that to your hotbar, click on the scroll in your inventory, then click the inscribe icon.

Imaveteran says in 1-3 (1): You should have an inscribe icon on your hotbar, if not go to your character sheet, feats, then look for it. Looks like a quill and ink well. Drag that to your hotbar, click on the scroll in your inventory, then click the inscribe icon.

In addition to binding the channels to whatever keys you'd like these channels would also be toggle-able to on or off.

Class channels would work in a similar fashion:

Imanewplayer says in wizard: Hey guys I'm a new player and I'm trying to figure out how to inscribe a spell.

/wizard You should have an inscribe icon on your hotbar, if not go to your character sheet, feats, then look for it. Looks like a quill and ink well. Drag that to your hotbar, click on the scroll in your inventory, then click the inscribe icon.

Probably. That's their problem to figure out not mine. :DActually a fix for that would be to increase our inventory by a number of slots equal to our equipable slots.

That way everything we are wearing is also carried in our packs.

The only time this would be advantageous to a player is when one or more equipment slots is not being used. So basically low level characters. I, for one, don't really have a problem giving low level characters a few extra squares of inventory.

I just read a post about level gap issues and this got me thinking about a way to remove that penalty (sortof)

It would be great if there was a "mentor" / "sidekick" option available for grouping with friends.

The Mentor ability would lower your characters effective level to that of the person you were mentoring.
The sidekick ability would raise the effective level to yours (minus 1 (so if you were level 16 your side kicks level would be 15).
Each of these abilities would have a range limit as in your mentor or sidekick would need to be within a certain radius of you at all times for the ability to function correctly. Going out of the range would flash a visual warning that you are about to be unmentored and give you a countdown 5 to 10 seconds approximately.

The ability to be mentored would become available at level 2 and the sidekick ability would be available at level 4.

A player may not have more than 1 sidekick or mentor at anytime.

This would have a couple effects of caution:

If you were mentoring a player you would want to stay within that radius of them or else they would receive 0 xp for the quest as you returned to your normal level.

If you had a player sidekicked they would want to stay within that radius of you as they would receive 0 xp for the quest as they returned to "power level" status.

As far as spells go and equipment they would have to figure out a way to lower the effectiveness of gear within the ML range and simply make spells that are no longer available due to your effective level being lowered greyed out.

More info on the party window. I can currently find out more about my party while we are in the LFM panel then after we have fulled up. That's just wrong. Let me see the class-makeup and current location of each player when i hover my mouse over them.

Edit: Another one. The ability to reset quests, and especially explorer zones, without having to form a party/reform a party. Make those solo desert/necro runs a little less tedious.

It would be nice in addition to the game wide comms to have a specific channel for private auctioning. This would alleviate the necessesity of players posting trade adds in the LFM panel.

Make it so i can see a difference if someone is incapped or dead, even while i have them selected/they're talking.
Add a 'Select Nearest Interactable' Keybinding.
Allow rogues to initiate Disable Device and Open Lock by 'using' a locked object/control box. So that they don't have to waste 2 quickbar spots.

Separate my attack rolls from my saving throws and maybe skill rolls in the combat log categories. Currently they are all under 'Your actions'. I want to be able to log my saving throws without having my attack rolls spam my log into near-uselessness.

List the paladin aura bonus to AC and Saves as something more descriptive then Misc/Enchanted. Aura bonus, maybe.
List the paladin charisma bonus to saves as something other then feat bonus. Probably as Divine Grace bonus.

In other words just generally make the lists of effects on the stat page more descriptive.

Add a filter to the feats page for chosen feats only.

Mentor Maybe.. Sidekick no.. that'd make it too easy to power level.. even if they were brought up to level 15 temp and got the XP for being level 15. they could manage to get multiple levels of XP from the quest.. also not sure on mentoring either.. you could create a mentor character of you own at their level range.. if you went down to a level 4 say from a level 16 you'd have to reequip almost all of your inventory as well on the switch most likely as you'd be below the level range to wear it.. be a problem if you ever changed weapons or armor/jewerly anything..now if loot and xp were turned off for a sidekick maybe.. but what would be the point?

Two suggestions while I'm thinking of them

It would be nice if the party list said the guild people were in when you floated over an LFM in the 'grouping' tab. Parties with the majority of the same guild tend to work better in my view.

It would be nice if you could combine similar wands e.g.you have two cure mod wands both with 10 charges, it would be nice if you could combine them to a 20 charge wand. Although this might go against some dnd rule I suppose.

Funny, I was JUST thinking this tonight and I agree!

I have two suggestions:

1) FIX ANONYMOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy freakin' a! I can't even begin to express how sick and tired I am of NOT truly being anonymous!
When I click Anonymous, I should be anonymous.

I'm so tired of logging on for inventory maintenance, AH perusal, soloing, or just farting around in general and yet STILL having friends message me.
While I do like my friends and enjoy idle chit-chat when not questing, there are just some times when I don't want to talk to anyone.
I should not have to worry about being "hunted down" by people I know when they see I've logged off of one character and decide they need to bug me!

If I'm Anonymous, no one should EVER know I'm on or have been on unless I run by them or message them first.
They should not be receiving a message "Your friend So-n-So has just logged off".

2) This isn't as important as most stuff, but when are you going to fix the city?
The event has been over for a month and yet the city is still in this ugly overcast state.
So I have to "leave" Stormreach to see blue skies again? ***?
It's just depressing to be in the city and makes it look even more dingy and dirty than before. :(

BRING BACK OUR BLUE SKIES!
I'm not yet to the point of yelling, but the perpetual gloom is getting old. The weather needs to vary. Does it ever snow in Stormreach?

I've heard mention that we'll be getting more shortcut bars. We need a UI overhaul in general.

Managing my inventory would be faster and easier if it had a sort feature. Sort by type; useful when I want to pick which weapons to keep or get rid of. Sort by time acquired; useful when I want to look over the loot I just gathered. Or, since the game presumably doesn't timestamp items, allow items to be flagged, with an option to auto-flag an item when it's looted from a chest or given as a reward, and then let me autosort my inventory by flag.

I do want more shortcut bars, but not all on the screen at once. What I really want is to be able to toggle between entire sets of shortcut bars. Set 1 is fairly small and includes my "in-town" and traveling stuff-- haggle ring, expeditious retreat, greater heroism, healing spells, "Quenched" item, etc. Set 2 includes my buff spells and a list of all the gear I wear into combat. Set 3 occupies the most screen space; it has all my offensive spells, healing spells, buffs I cast in combat, wands, scrolls, my cartouche, all my combat weapons, and my activated combat feats. Set 4 would be my rogue items and skills, except that I don't play a rogue. And so on.

Actually I just thought of how kewl it would be if they had special sound effects for critical misses like a big SWOOOOOSWH or something and critical hits such as in Batman and Robin TV Series Kaplow, Whammie, hehe.

As another forum poster mentioned it would be great to have the ability to sort party members in an order we see fit.
Even something as simple as being able to right click on a player name in the party window and selecting an option to move them up or move them down in the listing.

Also sort options. Sort by primary class, name, or guild.

Visible Auction History (30 days) - So we can tell what items actually sell for.
/timer command - count-down timer
/clock command - what time is it?
/alarm command - let you know when a certain time has come.
$instance - I am currently in $instance --> I am currently in Marketplace 1
eBay-like bidding - set our maximum bid, and let the server do the rest.
/follow - auto-follow whatever is targeted (using pet AI)

i know everquest has an autofollow command that works well, so couldn't be hard to implement

Lockable inventory space, so that items return to the same slots in our backpacks after being used. That'd be really cool.

I have to agree 100%. I hate using the quikc dual weilding buttons cause none of my weapons go back or switch with the new weapons I am equipping. Everything goes to the first available spot that lead to a load of cleaning up bs after each quest. so much so I dont use the hot buttons I just manually equip my weapons :/
