Hello all,

I'm wanting to make a battle-cleric. Not the type that swings axes and such, but a *spell based* battled cleric. I play a caped cleric that heals, d.v.'s, buffs, etc. Very happy with em. Nevertheless, I would really like to take a shot at a *spell based* battle-cleric. The idea really appeals to me, and I don't see a lot of em running around. I want to max wisdom for spell pen., sp, etc. I would like a decent constitution, which makes me wanna lean towards dwarf, but not set in stone. I wanna specialize in spell penetration, max, empowered damaging spells, eg. blade-barrier, harm, cometfall, etc. I wanna max out clerical aligned skills, eg. holly smite, wraith of order, etc.

What else should I put my points into besides wisdom and con? Should I go charisma, and be a d.v.'er or a turn undead specialist, or strength to self buff and carry some stat damagers, vorpals, etc.? What alignment should I go to get the max benefit? What race?

I really wanna give this a shot, and any and all suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks. Gum

Might want to consider human, for the extra feat & wisdom enhancement - sounds like a pretty feat-heavy build (didn't see quicken up there, but I understand most people who want to cast while under attack consider it a pretty important investment).

Dwarf. 18 wisdom, 18 con, 14 str (assuming 32 pointer). True neutral so you can use all the alignment spells.

Max,emp, quicken,Sp pen, Extend, Heighten ( not necessarily in that order)

Good casting, Capable melee with self-buffs, High hp to absorb damage.

Since you want a spell cleric Human is a great race as well. The extra feat and the +1 wisdom for the win - well it is another option anyway..

Gum,

Get with me ingame so we can talk about it... Whodoo was the same thought in mind.

Satch.

and just for the sake of it,

Wis/Con is all u need... the rest is just twinking. You will be a lil gimped til level 5 but then you will see them start to blossom. Imo, human is the way to go.

Human only gets you an extra wisdom mod if you craft a +3 wisdom item in the shroud. You are looking at 34v35 or 37v38. The extra feat is nice, but dwarf gets you higher saving throws, better hp. You use the human feat for what, mental toughness? If you really find you need the sp, you can use the dwarven enhancement to bridge the gap. Lendra has niether Mental feat has just shy of 1600 sp and I rarely find myself wanting for sp.

Sorry but 1600 is kinda low imo. Hell, 1700 for that matter

I do understand your points Shadow and they are very strong indeed. I personally just dont care for the dwarf cleric - too pudgy for my taste ;)

I agrre 1600 is lowish for a pure caster cleric. In the feats I listed I would actually recommend Mental over the spell pen feat, you can make most of that up with Items and enhancements. I should clarify. Lendra has almost 1600 with no mental feats and no dwarven sp enhancements. She i smore melee centric. Max wisdom and can buff to 27str(need a +3 tome), +31 first swing and
350ish HP.

Regardless, Human or dwarf are both solid choices for different reasons.
