View Full Version : Need halfling monk build (dragonmarked)

What do you guys think of a halfling monk with dragonmarked feats + monks own self healing feats as a great all around character that is very self sufficient.

It seems this character will have insane saves, high ac, great dps, and amazing heals.

But I have been gone from DDO for over 1.5 years so all the new feats, enhancements, etc are new to me, and I could really use some of you veterans help and advice. =)

I prefer a rog1/monk15 halfling instead.

Use UMD skill instead of dragonmarks for healing. Use the Halfling Guile enhancement series for a damage bonus on sneak attacks, which should work well with the monk's higher rate of attacking (and -10% melee hate).

I really want to stay pure monk as this is a character with an eventual level 20 goal in mind. Being that missing out on perfect self (becoming an outside with dr 10).

my only concern with multi-classing Monk with a level Rogue is that you are already playing a class that is relying heavily on 4 stats (Str, Dex, Con, Wis: not in order of priority.)
Now you are adding a 5th stat to that already streched out pool. Where will you fnd the attribute points to not gimp your character?

I am, Rameses!

my new monk is a halfling with the lesser dragonmark

I think I'm going to take a single wizard level for wand use and the maximize bonus feat will work on the Cure Wounds marks.

The level 20 monk ability of Perfect Self is not as attractive to me as the ability to buy & use wands of Stoneskin :)

I won't be able to cast 1st level wizard spells unless a +2 INT item is worn though. Hehe.

QUESTION: What level is required for the Dragonmark of Cure Serious, and Heal ?

i spent a lot of time rolling and rerolling and planning and reading and debating and worrying and frowning and cursing and, just generally being unhappy because i couldnt find a way to come up with the bestest uberestest build.....

Then after talking to another builder i know, i just decided to heck with it, im gonna build something thats fun and something that i will enjoy, and worry about that other junk later

and the halfling dmark with one level of wizzie for emp/maximize is what i came up with, so far i like it, but its hard not too since i got rid of any expectations...I have lots of other toons if i want that.

Its a solid build. One that I am working on as well. The general idea behind my build is

All three tiers of dragonmarks.

Power Attack.

Imp Crit bludgeon. (this will give you the greater crit for unarmed and quarterstaves)

Use quarterstaves + cleave + stunning blow for groups...fists for single opponents.

Stunning blow with stealth maxed and some 5% handwraps.. sneak up and disable the enemies you can. Go dps when you cant.

For best dragonmark usage.. get a set of the Gloves from reaver (forget the name atm) and carry a superior potency 6 item. Swap these on when time allows for max healing.. or leave the gloves on full time.

You will see a 9% healing critical chance for 450 pt full heals... regular will be 225... with 50-100 pt cure serious and 20-40 cure lights.

This is more than enough to keep my fighter alive while soloing.

I started with a

10 +2 int tome at 1st

Enhancements to

And almost always use fire stance to increase the strength.. this way the wisdom is there when I want it to be. (for special monk attacks)

Seems solid so far but he's only 4th level.

This way your not wasting all your feats on twf with kamas which do less damage than fists and quarterstaves anyway. You get +10 dmg per hit from PA. This clears the feats up for the dragonmarks. Only kamas he will carry are vorpals.. which work on a 20 anyway. Quarterstaves are cheap and easy to come by and get the glancing blow damage without spending feats on them.

TO increase DPS... get a bloodstone and some hunter bracers or backstabbers gloves and madstone boots for the 20% alacrity and rage (not for soloing HA)

You could splash fighter for the feats and the Attack speed boost but... Id stay single class.

Hope that helps a little.

Do you want a 32-point build or a 28-point build?

Frankly, the monk is pretty easy to do, as far as I'm concerned. As long as you emphasize the 4 (!) key monk abilities, you can't really go wrong. Whether you raise Str or Dex higher is personal taste, not a gimp one way or the other.

Given a build that isn't deliberately gimped, a Monk is all about gear and playstyle, not about the build. Many other classes you need an actual "build", but with Monk you can get away more with being sloppy, I reckon.

I did

13str First stat boost went here
15wis The rest of the level stat boost went here as well as a +1 tome at first level

Skills ive taken as i can recall them
Toughnessx2 (1 on creation and one at the third level)
Dragonmark of healing lesser-greater (first on creation then every chance i got after that)
Two weapon fighting (level 15 ( used my hands to much might switch it out for another toughness at 16 havnt decided)
Weapon finess (level 3)

At least that how i remember i could be wrong i will look it up

At level 15 out of stance shes

20str no tome +6 item
20con no tome +4 item (too cheep to spend the money on a ring)
22Dex no tome (+6 item)
27 wis +1 tome (+6 item)
8 cha

has about 290 ish hp with minos helm and a improved false life belt

out of stance has roughely 45 ac 46 in wind and 47 in water ive seen her self buff up to 54 (barkskin/haste pots as well as white dragonscale armor clicky)
Shes wearing a +5prot cloak, white dragonscale armor, and chaos gaurds
Her resists in water stance hover in the mid to high 20s

She hits often but for little 15-20 base hit can take quite a beating and as with all monks who keep slowfall on at level 15 never takes damage when falling ( except for the reaver raid i havnt figured that one out i think it has something to do with the spell)

and with 3 of the 4 dragonmark enhancments she has 8 CLW 6 CSW and 4 heals which come in handy as well for soloing or saving that cleric whos on the floor
thats all i can remember

Just realize at least on argo at the higher level monks seemed to be shuned a little bit.

Maximize and empower do not work on the Greater dragon mark.

Maximize and empower do not work on the Greater dragon mark.

Works on the cures just like it would on a cleric. Does not work on the heals (just like a cleric, need empower healing). This from a friend who built a DM build and actually got the metamagics to test.
