I personally would really like to see some sort of memorial to Gary Gygax put somewhere in stormreach, some sort of shrine or statue or something, would appreciate other people's input on the subject

I know a perfect spot in the middle of the marketplace. It seems to have recently been vacated.;)

All jesting aside. A monument to the Gary is required.

Chisseled on the front it should read: "That's it. Doors open."

We've had Tolero and Quarion sign it so far, so it looks like we'll get something eventually. But go ahead and sign it yourself so we can keep it on the front page and keep it going!

See if you can track down Gary's favorite character and create a statue in his image fully clad and in an attack stance. Please add his name and what he would choose as his favoite quote. Please..and if you don't feel motivated enough watch the tribute by sarlona again, it moves me every time I watch it and I think it shows how deeply some of us love Gary's creation and his memory deserves what ever we can muster to show our appreciation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1UDwvHC93o

thanks for the work towards Gary Gygax's memory and thanks in advance for any further work you choose to do.

P.S. Maybe make a sign too, that points the way to the memorial in the Graveyard to educate new people, who may not know the name of the Father of Dungoens and Dragons.

True Zenako, but the poster who Necro'd it Acknoleges the memorial,
I believe what they are Asking for Is a Staute of the character that E.G.G. most liked to play.

I think though, I like the Present memorial as it is... It is Poigniant, Subltle, And elegant.
and it stands more as a Memorial to his love of the Game than to He himself...

And I think... that E.G.G. would like it that Way...

Already found it - even took the time to logout at it - just so I could log back in to see it (in an effort to 'pay my respects) - but i don't think it's good enough.

When was the last time you were in the Graveyard - and when was the last time you purposely took a stroll by it?

not a punch in the gut.... I just kinda feel like...

When they say a Memorial to Mr. Gygax....

-------------

He's sitten in his Chair - just like Lincoln - and get's 100's of 1,000's of visitors each n every login

...that's all from the peanut gallery....

"Gary Gygax fails saving throw vs heart attack

Thursday, 06 March 2008
More than 5000 men and three women, clutching dog-eared rulebooks and dice, have gathered outside Dungeons & Dragons creator Gary Gygax's Wisconsin home this week, after learning the American game designer had died at the age of 69. Although official reports have blamed a heart attack, archmage Mordenkainen is claiming responsibility and demanding experience points for the kill.

According to his family, Gygax, who also created boardgames, chess variants and the phrase "goddamn rules lawyer", was found in bed on Tuesday morning. After checking for a pulse, his daughter searched the body for loot, finding 2d6 gems, a potion of healing and a mysterious map.

His widow Gail issued a statement yesterday afternoon: "Until a high-level cleric of the sun god Pelor can be found to cast a resurrection spell, Gary's body will be interred in the Tomb Of Horrors, near the Keep On The Borderlands, where it will be safe from vile necromancers."

The funeral will be a quiet, private affair, with the family asking orcs, red dragons and Demogorgon, Prince Of Demons And Lord Of All That Swims In Darkness not to attend. "We'd also ask D&D fans to refrain from rubbing their dice on Gary's corpse for luck," said Mrs Gygax.

Apparently there has been some dispute over Gygax's will, with a sum of 500 platinum pieces still to be allocated. In accordance with his wishes, and first edition D&D rules, Gary will be buried with his vorpal sword and plate mail +5.

With Gygax's passing, George Lucas has officially assumed the mantle of "Most Influential Nerd Alive"."

Well, in my my cultish guild, the Crowhaven Company, the induction ceremony takes place at the memorial, and we pledge fealty to the Dead God Gary Gygax, to the Crowhaven Company, and to Stormreach. We also make regular pligrimages, complete with kneeling and prayers. Isn't this fitting?

If you're actually praying to Gary Gygax, then No.

If you're praying for Gary and his family, then yes I suppose.

+1% permanent bonus xp for everyone who prays at the memorial of Gary Gygax! :)

Praying takes like 1-2 minutes and screen is filled with facts about his life.

Can be done only once each life.

Respect the time limit. That is the most important thing.

I say just have the statue open up a secret chamber to give the player a +1 mace (1 per account) that is bound to account and has (1) recharge clicky of potion of wonder (Defensive).

I won't lie I cried too... :( I'm gonna regret the fact that I never got to meet the genius that is Gary Gygax. May his soul rest in peace and may he DM the ultimate campaign in Heaven... maybe if we're lucky we'll get to join in that epic game!
