View Full Version : Any magic item boost UMD skill?

I play a Human Rogue -- level 5 currently -- and I try to be well rounded in choosing my skill points as I level up. I feel it is best to be a kind of Utility Rogue to benefit the groups I pug with and my Guild mates, so like my Disable Device is 13 where my UMD is only 7. When I try to use a wand or scroll nothing much ever happens, and I notice it often says UMD of usually 20 or 24 under the item description.

Man!

I have goggles and other items that boost my Spot and Search and Disable Device and things, but I've never come across anything for a Rogue to help him be more viable earlier with aid in the UMD skill.

Do things that help UMD drop ever? Quest rewards?

Also, if not, what is the average level of a Rogue when they can begin to use these things to heal others or cast web from a wand for crowd control, ect.? Am I just impatient?

Thanks

Well it is not raid loot per se but the golden cartouche from deleras boosts your umd 3 I believe.

There are some static rewards that specifically address UMD. Generally though.

At low levels you can get a command item, that adds +2.

Later you can get the golden catouche from deleras, that adds +3. Does not stack with a command item.

Get CHA items. Each even number you get it to above 10 adds +1 to UMD.

You can buy pots/gather collectibles for pots of something or other that add an alchemical bonus of anywhere from +1 to +3 to CHA based skills. This will stack with any other bonus. You can also get an alchemical bonus to CHA which will bump the UMD further.

You can get heroism or greater heroism. This adds a morale bonus to UMD, which will stack with the three above.

Last but not least, you can get a luck item that will stack with everything above. +2 from the reaver is the highest I think.

Also, on items you need to see what king of bonus it is. Command and cartouche give a competence bonus. I am not sure if others give an enhancement bonus. If they do they will stack with command/cartouche.

To my knowledge no bonuses to skills will stack, so you need to get one of each kind and layer them to get the highest possible. The exception to this is the three exceptional bonuses from green steel items.

Edited: There is also the green steel items whic can add up to a +6 exceptional bonus. But you are a long way from them.

there is a +5 as well but it's a staff - forget the name

memory escapes me again on another possible +5 item(either DQ or Titan item i think though)
best thing to do is get CHA high, put lots of points into UMD and find the Cartouche until you plan oin hitting some raids
another luck item to look for is the Rabbit Foot Gloves or something similarily named from Threnal

GS items will give a bonus the all skills of a certain ability(ie CHA for UMD) and that will stack with everything
i think you can get a total of +6 from them(or is it only +3.... haven't checked all of the recipes to see how high it goes)

You will probably not find this very effective. The DC is base CL. So once you move above normal and the CR goes above 3 or 4 levels I have found web wands and other things to be pretty useless in my experience.

Thats right they are exceptional bonus I think. I will edit now.

Edited: I knew it stacked but could not remeber the bonus type.

They are layered as well and will stack. Exceptional bonus of +1, +2, +3 for a total of +6.

Stave of the Seer(also gives True Seeing), but this is 2handed weapon so you can only use for items and armor :(

I have a circlet of persuasion that is similar to command, but +3 instead of +2. Recitation also increases UMD. Command / persuasion don't stack with the Golden Cart.

The Seven fingered gloves from Titan also.

+11 disable device
+11 open lock
+5 umd
-10 to arcane spell failure.
