The Twelve would like to remind adventurers that while Green Steel items are Bound on Equip when created, upgrading a Green Steel item at an altar within the Shroud will bind the item to the crafter.

They don't bind when you get it.

Initially, those items are Bind on Equip, and you can mail/trade it to other characters. It will become bound to you EITHER when you equip it on your body, OR upgrade it with an additional magic effect in the raid.

Apparently this announcement was posted because some players had forgotten the second part, and crafted upgrades onto items they wished to give to other characters.

I guess what I was saying was you aren't equiping to upgrade, you are just aquiring the next piece... So I suppose its technically the upgrade that is bind on aquire

When the change was made for Green Steel items to be "Bind on Equip OR Upgrade," the Devs forgot to add "OR upgrade" to the description.

The green steel "blanks" are bind on equip. Upgrading an item will bind it to the character.

The act of upgrading an item will bind it to you. You can pass around the un-upgraded green steel blanks, however, as the early waves of explorers would otherwise potentially end up with weapons they are not proficient with. (Khopeshes, for instance, or the barbarian stuck with a sceptre.)
