View Full Version : What do I want to see for Mod 7

Mod 5 was the Caster Mod, looks like Mod 6 will be the melee Mod....

What do I want to see for Mod 7?

1. More Epic feeling boss battles, not just raid bosses but quest bosses too. Why does every boss fight gotta either be 6 on 1 or 6 on 1 with a bunch of fodder??? Why not a 6 on 4 fight or even a 6 on 8 fight... Casters, clerics, maybe a rogue and a barbarian that we face off against? Maybe a boss who has hired one of each of those to work for him against those "pesky do gooders of Stormreach."

2. More traps, more chests, more OPTIONALS, more uses for skills (can I please use my heal skill on an NPC and maybe get some help or something?)

3. A quasi random dungeon, one that does not stay the same, a different experience each time. I dont know if the game tech can support it but I would absolutly LOVE a zone that had random traps in it, (maybe even some that aren't obviously disarmable) with new and exciting ways for my cleric to watch his teammates get killed off. (Uhm I mean try to solve).

4. One real ball buster, endurance type quest. Have it be a quest that is very easily completed (by comparison)for almost no loot (1 chest) and little xp, and have all of the real loot and xp come from all of the optional parts that are in the quest and make them rough. I mean make it so much that even a normal group cannot complete all of the objectives and use every trick in the Turbine grab bag to make it fun. Put in stat levers, puzzles, melee fights, anti magic rooms, rooms where the group is perma slowed or whatever and make it basically impossible for a group to complete all of them on one run, yet dont make it so hard that a group cannot complete any of the objectives they try.

Just some ideas, would love to hear others, and get feedback on mine.

Ok this is a great idea/suggestion. As you move through the dungeon, you can heal wounded NPCs, using your heal skill, not heal spells, for whatever reason, they are cursed with something from the plane of the dead.

Each has a different DC to be healed. The more you heal, the more help you get at the end against the boss.

Well done.

Even better...they are WF and you need to use your repair skill. All the wizards and sorc out there have maxed repair, just like they expect the clerics to max heal right? No? huh..your bad... Wait the fighters must have, its class skill for them... no? huh...

Oh well, I'm sure the WF parties will do fine :D

You run in parties where people expect heal to be maxed? I run in parties where people don't expect party members to max out gimped skills.

Probably...personally I wouldn't build a cleric without heal or a wf wiz without repair, those skills are actually useful at a shine, and we know that repair is about to be very important with the changes Codog is planning...

I think enough skills may have changed to warrant this, I am just fondly recalling the threads of people claiming their character is now gimped because they didn't focus in uneccisary skills. I would be highly suprised if someone decided to focus all their skills into UMD an jump, and/or decided to build a Rogue/whatever mix min/maxxed to the point where they have enough room for their Rogue skills but not much else so they could boost STR or CON that they may end up living to regret it when/if they ever start actually utilizing the skills they do have, much less the ones that are missing....

No... the ones who tell you that you can ignore spot on a rogue don't ask where they should search for trap boxes.

The complete newb who listens to them without ever having paid attention in any dungeon, takes their advice, and is completely lost... they are the ones that ask those questions.

The people who recommend no spot usually know what they're talking about.

And yes... skill use changes SHOULD warrant a skill check. I'm not going to max out useless skills on the off chance that someday a Dev will make that skill invaluable. But whatever... most people that jump for joy when their maxed out skill becomes awesome act like they just won the lottery.

And they did.

That doesn't make playing the lottery a smart investment.

I want to see them separate sound channels. I want my party voice chat on my headphones and the rest of the sound through my comp speakers. This makes it much easier to hear what folks in the party are saying while still enjoying the combat sounds and music.

Prior to mod 5 I would plug in my USB headphone/mic combo after the game loaded and that is what I got. I would LOVE to have that feature back.

Closely related to that, individual volume sliders for each person in your party. That was you can turn down Mr. Pants-Into-The-Mike and turn up Miss Softspoken.

Really? Because I had someone tell me how worthless Spot is(pre-change to hidden mobs) for a Rogue. This was after he had searched a wide swath of an area with an already triggered trap that he knew was there. He asked if anyone knew where the box was specifically as he knew it was around here somewhere. I asked if he could spot it. He told me spot was worthless so he hadn't been putting points into it so he could max Haggle and UMD. I countered with, "Gee sure would be handy now." :D

Well, eventually the Sorcerer of the group got impatient and threw jump and haste on himself and jumped/ran through. He died(force trap) but all the others made it. I sighed and followed just managing to eek through with a couple HPs left. The Rogue gave up. He found other traps in the quest and I can't remember which it was... some mid ranged quest on elite with level equivalent characters, levels 8-9 I think.

More Eberron specific feats would be nice.
New wepons, maybe like Pole Arms and Spears.
New Monsters that look different. Where's the DracoLich?
Guild Houses, with storage for specific items for guildies to take if they can use.
I know that everyone would like the item creation ability. Would love to make my own specific bow. With collecting rare and awesome items for the construction.

Finally, with the whole of the Eberron map, maybe a new port?

I know too much to ask.

uhh... then you're really not building a character with gimped skills on the off chance that a dev makes them useful, are you? If you're taking skills that think fit the 'vision' of your character, then more power to you.

Some people aren't making characters... some people are making video game avatars which are built to be optimal in questing in the game.

People get different things out of this game.

What annoys me is the people that get out of shape because someone's min/maxing. Video games are supposed to be min/maxed. If you're treating this game as a online replacement for your boardtop roleplaying game... then you're going to want to treat your characters like you would in that game.

But what you're not doing... is building an optimal avatar for a video game, using gimped skills on the offchance that a dev will make them useful someday.

The Crucible had the potential to have something like this but the delayed spawning of it really works in the favor of the PC's. It was a crazy fight the first few times I went in there and we fought them without preparing a death trap for them first. I'm all for hard quest boss fights involving several red named mobs working together if such an AI feat is possible without making them too vulnerable due to pathing and scripting.

Well, this is a Video Game, but it is also supposed to be an RPG. Look at games like Warhammer. It is a tactical battle game, but it also includes a "fluff" factor. Even the tournaments have composition ratings which are a factor in building your army. Most min/maxed Warhammer armies score poorly in Composition, not all, but a good deal of them. So yes some of us take non-min/max skills because of flavor/fluff, others don't.

That all aside, even building a video game avatar many people don't min/max. Some build characters that can do a lot of different things. My two WFs have a few points into Heal, carry First Aid kits, and swappable gear that gives a bonus to healing. Why? Because while I can use repair wands I can not use CxWs wands and Rage isn't always enough to get the incapped person up. I have saved the Cleric a couple of times with my Gimp skill and avoided what might have been a team wipe.

Yes I did take Listen before it actually worked to find hidden foes, even back when you could just tab target them because it was supposed to work, and it eventually did. It was a class skill for that character so it was a minor investment instead of throwing everything into another skill. There is also a tendency that you are seeing more and more of Devs taking unused aspects of the game and finding a use for them, thus the gem bags and collectible bags. Gambling that skill X won't be needed tomorrow is less risky than gambling that it will, but I subscribe to the school of thought that having something and not needing it is better than not having something and needing it. Just the way I live my life and end up playing my games.

Here's an idea I don't think anyone has suggested yet:

How about gladiator combat?

An individual - or a party - enters the arena and fights a ramdom batch of monsters based on the number of party members and their respective levels. You could even add difficulty levels to the fight (Normal, Hard, Elite) for a greater challenge.

Now, I can already hear the naysayers and the DOOMcallers saying, "Why bother? Don't we have wilderness areas to play with already? What good could come of this?"

The difference is that in the arena ANYTHING that fits the CR of the fight could appear. Kobolds, oozes, giants, elementals, elves, or anything else in the monster roster. And they could appear in any random combination, so long as their combined total CR equals the determined CR of the encounter.

The XP and loot levels don't need to be very high for these fights, as there is one other benefit players could gain from them: TACTICS.

Newer players and whole parties could use these fights to practice different tactics for facing various parties and mobs without suffering the headaches that come from fighting them in actual adventures. More experienced players could use the fights to mentor new guildies on the better means of defeating opponents or to practice themselves to meet even greater challenges.

At the very least (for the cynics out there), having something that offered truly random fights would be a BIG change of pace for DDO, where pretty much everything is preset and prestaged.

My 2 coppers' worth, anyhow.

I like the idea and think if you added a hard-core type of challege rating to it, as an option, where the mobs get slightly more difficult the more rounds you last, players would spend a lot of time in there working their way ever higher. You could even add higher loot chests that pop once players have survived a set number of rounds. Have shrines pop every once in a while to make it so its not a total drain on resources and make it so that if you leave you can't re-enter and you have your self a one way trip to hillarious monster combinations and crazy times.

Shouldn't be to hard to do something like this. Take the arena from von1 and set the rooms to spawn mobs from various monster tables set to a CR difficulty that rises at the end of each round. Would be lots of fun.

I think it was suggested once as an alternative or supplement to PvP.

I think it could be an interesting system, but to take it a step farther...

CoX has a pretty cool "gladiator" system where you can actually do little battles against your friends each of you controlling a little horde of enemies. They manage balance by giving each enemy a point value and then only allowing you to have X number of points worth of monsters in your group. You then unlock different gladiators by doing different things throughout the game. It's kind of fun.
