Why only on Risia? Why not have one per-server, and that way maximize the people attending - and therefore your feedback?

Because if you are actually serious about giving feedback, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to dl Risia.

I already see this becoming a big debacle however. There's always one or two people that need some attention, and will probably disrupt things. :(

Is this a ploy to get more people on Risia or will we actually see fruit for our labor of getting on Risia and meeting with you. By fruit I mean will you truely be addressing ALL of our concerns and maybe be taking all legitimate ones further, maybe to the point of hotfixes or new content? I don't know about anyone else but for me I never ever planned on stepping foot into Risia. If this is a genuine effort to finally hear the voices of the people in game then I am down for attending. If this is just some stroke fest to get more people to Risia then this is a pretty low way to do it.

Great idea! Will there be a similar session for West Coast people that is more convenient for those of us who are gainfully employed? What about those of us who do not use Risia?

A DEV chat? On a DEV server? Heavens, why?

It's perfect as far as I can see - you'll go if you're interested and it wont slow anyone's actual gaming down (unless they insist on questing on Risia then).

Hmm.. I wonder if I have room to install the risia client...

He maybe doing it on risia because it is a one stop shop everyone can get to and he is limited on time? I mean Q might have a personal life

Can you please color your text and include the question in your answer so we can weed out the general talking?

Also, will a transcript be available for those unable to attend or unable to install Risia?

Why only on Risia? Why not have one per-server, and that way maximize the people attending - and therefore your feedback?

Possibly to reduce the amount of lag generated for those who have no desire to attend. I mean if they hold the event on one of the active servers everyone who's trying to play on that server (especially in that area) is going to suffer.

By holding the event on Risia they ensure minimal load on all servers and reduce the likelihood of interference with active game play.

Just hope this isnt a replay of another game.

- townhall meeting to discuss game stuff -

They had the meeting the, the avatar showed up. Announced that the game was closing on XXXXX date. Then logged off leaving a stunned crowd

No that wasn't AC2. It wasnt even a Turbine game. But that did happen once.

Me and my big fat doom crying mouth.

I look forward to this event but not to the overwhelming lag it will cause.

By hosting this on Risia, aka not a production server, Turbine is not impacting the game play for those who could care less and are playing on those servers.

I am not sure that we need a Town Hall meeting to tell Turbine you have a really great game, now can we have more content.

It's too bad we can't get voice in these meetings. A global voice across all 14 instances.

Dane_McArdy

Woah there! Beer and pretzles? You don't need a person to do that. Just put out all the kegs and dump the pretzles in large barrels!

There, organized and taken care of! If anyone is caught pigging out, I will let the crowd decide the fitting punishment.

Damn it that's WF nights time lol....

I think picking Risia is probably a mistake. I have it up but not everyone does and asking people to spend hours downloading and installing it...well... you won't get full feedback. What you will get is a select group, you know, kinda like a subset of those from the forums.

It might have been better if you picked one server (any one since it takes what 10 minutes to create a new char and run it through the basement so you can get out into the world)

And just out of interest...if more than 50 people bother to download the client and show up then what? With Q in instance 1 is everyone else out of luck?

Looking forward to this, if I remember! :) Keep making unannounced visits (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=124086) too though - we enjoy those almost as much! The recent flurry of posts by Codog (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?&postid=1390664) proves how much the DDO community values open communication from the dev gods.

Having it on risia may be to minimize the type of feedback ...who knows...but enjoy the meeting. Personally have not been able to get Risia to work since they used it to test the server merges.

Dane_McArdy
10-15-2007, 02:47 PM
Just a point about getting feedback.

They will never get full feedback. First off, not everyone can go. Not everyone will care, not everyone will want too, and not everyone will get a chance to speak.

So worring that Turbine won't get full feedback, it wouldn't happen if they held it 5 times, once for each server.

The other effect of having everyone meet on Risia, if the same question came up on each server, they have to answer it 5 times. This way, the duplicate questions will be answered once, for everyone.

This is more for people that WANT to be part of it.

After all, do you go to the town halls in your neighborhood/city all the time?

Laith
10-15-2007, 02:49 PM
if you're worried about giving less than full feedback, you could gather it privately BEFORE the meeting, so that willing representatives could bring it up.

At least give us variety!

Chocolate covered pretzels, imported beer, etc.

As for Risia, I think it's actually the most logical choice. I'd rather have a set up dev chat again, via the IRC method, but it would have to be more free in what questions are asked.

1. No, he will not address everyone's concerns. People will have concerns which are not the concerns of the whole, they will have concerns that are out of line, they will have concerns which are not within the scope of the game, whether due to programming or vision issues. You *never* address everyone's concerns. Because someone out there has a concern that there's no option for non-consensual sex between PCs. His concerns will not be addressed.

2. Seriously. People kavitch and kavitch that they have no input, that the devs don't listen, taht it's all going to heck in a handcart.

And then they say "Hey! We want to listen, come give input!" And a good portion of the responses are "No, too hard, not gonna work, I don't believe it, you're just trying to get more people to the server." Why wouldn't they want to do them, I wonder?

Also, um, a ploy to get more people to Risia? To fulfill their nefarious purposes of getting things bug-tested and provide a better product to the consumer?

THOSE DASTARDLY COWARDS!

Risia was chosen for several reasons:

1. Everyone has a character there. There's no "Hey what about my server!?" Risia is EVERYONE's Server.

2. Such an event on Risia will not effect those who are not interested.

3. It allows us the opportunity to reach all players who are interested, on a single server.

Another reason for having this event in-game is to allow those who do not come to the forums to let their voice be heard.

In regards to feedback, we will be taking each and every comment and question out of the chat log to document it for the developers. What comes out of that feedback, I cannot promise, but considering the entire purpose of this event is to LISTEN to you, it would be pretty silly if we didn't actually listen :)

If one person asks us for a longer nose, we'll probably put that much lower on the priority list than the 20 players who ask for better enhancements.

I think this is a Neato Idea! I am always amazed at the great ideas, questions and constructive critique the DDO community can develop; it always sets me to thinking beyond my humdrum existence and builds.

I have not spent much time on Risia but the opportunity to be involved in open dialogue and participating in my favorite game's community is something I don't plan on passing on. Thanks Quarion! *now goes off to decide which of her 30 +/- toons she is gonna choose from.... soooo gonna wear my new Sacred Crane Armor of Ghola Fan* :D:D... ooo and that just gave me a question to ask!!! For those concerned about this getting "out of hand". It's very possible, though we're giving this a trial run, in the hopes that we can behave ourselves. Should it be just a few causing trouble, we have way's of ... well...lets just say they won't be a problem for long. Muahahah.

If this goes well, we'll do it again in the future.

We'll also be using a first come, first serve system on who gets floor time. This will not be a free for all, we hope. While we encourage everyone to weigh in, we also will expect the crowd to respect the individual who "has the floor" during any given time.

Oh yeah... And did I mention that we'll have a huge parade to the Wayward Lobster at the end where drinks will be flowing like ...well... drinks?

They are getting a 2.5 day notice. 15, 16, 17. They know the time. They know the way it's going to work. They know what they have to do.

They have said why they choose Risia, some very good reasons.

What more can they do? They are opening the doors, but in this case, people need to come to them, because trying to go to everyone just wouldn't be possible.

All interested parties should gather outside the Harbor Master's Quarters, in the nearby plaza at around 8pm Eastern.

This event is designed to let you voice your thoughts on DDO, and provide candid, and feedback about the game, in the game. Please be sure to keep all buffs and other spells to yourself, to allow the event to be enjoyed by all. We're here to listen and communicate with you, however should the crowd become unruly or unmanageable, the event will end. Also remember, that all standard rules and code of conduct terms still apply.

Hey Quarion this is a great idea, however personally it would be good if there was a second session for those players that aren't in the US TimeZones, this event happens at 11am Thursday and I'm sure your Off-Peak player base would love the opportunity to voice their concerns about the game.

Great Idea though and hope that this happens a few more times in the future and some good stuff comes of it.

C'mon - how else does a town meeting work - not everyone can get a chance to speak. Those are the breaks of the way they're doing it. They should probably have some other method of followup as well (oh yeah, that's what the forums are for :D ).

If you don't think you'll get heard (or care to hear what others are asking), don't download or play on your regular server.

Honestly, as an active presence on the Forums, I'll probably go to the "meeting" but avoid taking up a slot, thus allowing more non-Forum-using players have their say.

It might not be a bad idea if many of us more prolific forum posters make the same effort.

Make the area a magic free zone. Use charmed beholder guards, or anti-magic shell, something to prevent people from just spamming buffs like feather falling.

People will do it to get noticed, and I imagine the coin lords would have none of it. I certainly wouldn't.

Besides...doesn't spell casting pose a security risk? Make those who can cast wear anti-magic bracelets before attending.

I personally find that not agreeing to make the event anti-magic is very irresponsible. It's almost as if you want disruptions or the event to be cancelled. Anyone remember the chance games with Sir? Yeah I imagine it that bad. Someone doesn't like the answer, or doesn't get to ask a question, spam the buffs.

There's a large amount of people who also just want to prevent everyone else from being in character and having fun doing such.

This is definitely a step in the right direction of regaining that.

It certainly goes a long way in making me believe you meant what you posted last month, about being aware of the general lack of communication on Turbine's part for the last few months, and hoping to address the problem.

I haven't touched Risia, but I will be downloading for this event. Hopefully, people will behave, and we can have a rational discourse ( without boos, jeers, insults, and general unruliness ) from the " doom-criers " and the " fan-boy " crowds.

Thank you for the answer, Q. I appriciate it.

I was asking because I myself cannot DL the Risia client due to hard-drive space. I can have 1 DDO client on my computer, and it'd be silly not to use the Live servers as opposed to the test server. I know many others who are in the same situation in regards to Risia. However, I very much would have liked to have been one of the myriad of voices giving feedback, as I care a great deal about the direction of the game and it's future. Pity I cannot - but maybe next time after I upgrade or just outright get a new machine.

Have a good meeting.

Cannot attend (2 reasons - hard drive space and the whole 11am Thursday Sydney time thing...) - can someone here that is going plz take along the following request to the devs - to add more Tempest Spine style raids into the game (i.e. substantial quest, non-flagging, repeatable raids as opposed to single encounter mandatory flagging loot run raids).

Good idea tho.

Sounds like someone woke up one the wrong side of the bed this morning. I obviously didn't mean for them to give time to people who had out of line questions.

Yes, Risia participation has been down from what I have read. They will have a lot of people download Risia now and attend this meeting. New blood for Risia is not bad. I was just wanting to make sure there was follow up at Turbine after the fact to address our legitimate concerns. Of course they need new content testers and if people stay on Risia after for testing, that's a good thing.

I am glad that Turbine responded back to us here to clarify. I look forward to attending this event.

What should not shock many people is that this only proves that the general community of DDO cares about the game more than other games.
Wow players just play and could care less.
We, the players, at DDO want the game to be good.

C'mon - how else does a town meeting work - not everyone can get a chance to speak.

Really? For open public city meetings here you put your name on a list and get speaking rights. I guess not all cities believe in listening.

Down here in Florida the developer's lawyer demands extra time before any citizens speak, and they get their way....

I just noticed the login message – it says “here ye, here ye”. It should probably be “hear ye”, given that it was a call to pay attention – to hear what the crier had to say, not a call to come to a particular spot.

Yes, I'm petty, what of it?

Glad I loaded the risia with 8000+ updates, 6 hours off loading, just to express my views. I hope everyone will speak in turn and lay of the grease clickies, lol. Hope is not a method. got the right time this time, well set the alarm for 0145 in Central europe time.

In regards to feedback, we will be taking each and every comment and question out of the chat log to document it for the developers. What comes out of that feedback, I cannot promise, but considering the entire purpose of this event is to LISTEN to you, it would be pretty silly if we didn't actually listen :)

Will you be posting this list and allowing the West Coast people to comment on it since the event is too early for us to attend?

Okay, so I get home to get Risia going, only to realize that I need to update 8137 files and it is coming in slow due to so many other people doing the same thing, I bet...

Sorry, guys... It looks like I won't be joining you. I think that this was a bad idea.

I already downloaded Risia yesterday, and logged in to make sure it was working. However, now when I am trying to log in, I am getting an Update error"

"General access denied error"

Sounds like it is not letting me in? Is there anything I can do?

In general, if you frequent the forums and are up-to-date here there probably won't be anything new in logs of this event.

Except perhaps word that they're working to expand the Dev team.

You never listen to what players have been telling you within the game. How is this going to be any different? I guess the appearance of concern is enough to divert the mass exodus from this game? Keep dreamin'. As you further progress (digress) down that road towards WoW-ism, you will find more and more players will simply take their business elsewhere. The grind is not even worth the time anymore. The repetative loop for intangibles is simply nothing more than a way too squeeze more subscription dollars from an already dwindling community. That's not even mentioning your lack of control over plat-farmers....or even your game masters with attitude problems or "God" complexes. The ol' gray mare...she ain't what she used to be....and I for one will be laughing at your ignorance when DDO goes the way of AC.

It's actually pretty funny to watch people demonstrate just how ignorant of the facts they really are. I am consistently seeing more and more new people in-game then ever before, as for AC, my g/f plays and from what I've seen there is a strong community there also. As far as this game heading towards WoW-ism, I really think you need to take a look at what DDO is and realize that there really is no comparison to WoW, unless you think that all MMOs are the same. Just from the comments that you have made, it shows that you really don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. Sorry, if there was a town meeting and you showed up, I think that the comments you would provide would be in general disagreement with the rest of the community. Sorry man, sometimes it helps to know what you are talking about before you say anything.
