View Full Version : A Dragonmarked Halfling?

Well, I have been thinking of a way to include Dragonmarks on a Halfling without doing it the obvious ways (Cleric or Fighter). I have decided on a ranged fighting "Rogue".

Now I say "Rogue", more because the skills are there, not because it is mostly Rogue.

Anyways, here is what I'm thinking.

I am not an expert on builds, but I'd say that your str might be a bit low. Unless you are completely going for effects curse/destruction/paralyze etc. I think you may wanna raise that a bit.

I'm currently leveling a Halfling Sorcerer with dragon marks.

The feats are really tight, but its pretty fun and Maximized CLW is nothing to sneaze at. I can do 1/3 to 1/2 my health bar on each heal at level 3. It's a very min-max kind of character for me but so far I like it. It's in a structured "no-twinking" group so I was trying to make a very gear indipenent character. I look forward to seing what its like with the full array of healing marks.

Hey I am too! I just started two halfling dragon marked builds. A sorc and a TWF self healing/evasion/UMD tank Ftr 6/Pally 6/Rogue 2.

I like the halfling marks...

I'll actually be using primarily light repeaters, so Str won't affect it.

I know most of the Ranger feats won't affect it, but Improved Precise Shot will. Also with Ranger I can pick up Empower Healing and Ranger Devotion while keeping full BAB, as well as keep my Rogue skills (including UMD) maxed.

And everyone loves Barkskin! :D

I've been leveling a similair build, 11 Ranger, 2 Pally, 1 Fighter (ridiculous saves). He has been alot of fun thus far and estremely survivable with the Dragon Marks, an LoH and some of the best saves I have seen for his level. He lacks in the dps department a bit, but gear will make up for that at a higher level.

Only thing I see wrong with the build, as previously stated is the low str...might wanna dump more into it and less into Cha.

Curious why all the ranger levels if you're going with repeaters? Wouldn't fighter levels allow you to customize your feats more suitably?

i played a ranger like this, halfling and all with 8str...dont do it.

Your gunna regret not being able to do any melee that will matter, and you will be constantly bogged down with anything you loot.

Also, all those ranger feats can be picked up with fighter anyways, no real point of ranger+repeater combo.

That's actually a good point to consider - even my 10 str halfling repeater ftr/rog was constantly losing most of her dex bonus to AC due to being at medium encumbrance until I got her a +3 str item (Kutik's Bead just wasn't enough, heh). Really gotta watch the encumbrance with those high dex/low str halfling builds (halfling carrying capacity is lower than other races due to small size).

As far as the carrying, I don't carry all the **** most people do, I have a 6 Str Halfling Sorc I have been playing since release, and have no issues with carrying capacity.

Also:

As currently implemented:

Rapid shot -- Bow, Thrown, Crossbow, Repeating Crossbow
Rapid reload -- Crossbow

(SNIP)

Regards,

Codog

As you can see, Rangers get Rapid Shot and per a Dev, it affects Repeaters.

So, the only feat not usable with the repeater is Manyshot.

Think more Rogue with ability to use wnads with no failure and having his own spell list, than Ranger.

I like this concept. I played around and here is another spin on the build. I went for more rogue levels to be able to use sneak attack damage. I know that it is negated in most of mod-5, but we wont be fighting undead forever. You also lose out on some of the devotion enhancements, and your base attack bonus is 11 instead of 13. This version has lots of survivability which is what I like on my rogues.

(I also include +1 tomes and +6 stat items for my builds, when you are capped there are enough quests that can be ransacked that getting these items are not hard)
