James Oliver Rigney, Jr., better known as author Robert Jordan, passed away on Sunday (Sept 16th, 2007) of Cardiac Amyloidosis. Sadly, he leaves his greatest work, The Wheel of Time, unfinished...

Thank you for the countless hours of entertainment, Sir. The world will miss you.

It is very sad to hear he has passed.

I hope, just so the work will be finished, that the publisher can work things out with his family and or estate to take the notes or whatever he had done on the final book and let someone else finish it. I think it would be a shame to leave the story unfinished with only the last part to be told.

I had heard that origanly there was 3 books but then he decided to combine them all into 1 book.

He had planned two more prequels that would be released inbetween the main series books

He was in the middle of writting the final novel. He had the last battle written, and some of the rest. He has stated that he has enough notes written that his wife (also his editor) will be able to compleate the novel if the worst should happen.

May the last embrace of the mother welcome him home.:(

Very sad all around. From the blogs before it almost seemed as though he was hanging on pretty well, though I guess time was never an ally for this disease.

Robert Jordan was Fantasy Genius. That is not saying I liked all his work...I did not, but I did admire him as a human, as a writer and as the inventor of the WoT, and regardless of the grey view I held of his prose, he made the world of Fantasy Fiction a better place by his interest in it, and his passing leaves it a little less full than before.

I look forward to the publishing of the 12th and final novel of the series.

Sad stuff, truly one of the men who made fantasy my favorite genre. I suppose the wheel weaves as the wheel wills though, and if the series is meant to be completed, it will find a way.

RIP, sir. :(
