View Full Version : Just for something different - DR build

08-03-2007, 08:02 PM
Just for fun, I'm experimenting with a DR build. I want to max out (or near max out) my DR on a WF fighter.

Wondering: is Improved DR a fighter bonus feat? I suspect it is not... Can you take it more than once? I suspect you can...

I'll get plenty of feats. I'm thinking of having a secondary specialty of Intimidate, and tertiary in Trip.

Feat selection (tentative):

1 - Adamantine Body
1 - Combat Expertise
2 - Improved Trip
3 - Skill Focus (Intimidate)
4 - Shield Mastery
6 - Weapon Focus (Bludgeoning)
6 - Bullheaded
8 - Improved Critical (Bludgeoning)
9 - Improved Damage Reduction
10 - Improved Shield Mastery
12 - Toughness
12 - Improved Damage Reduction
14 - open - maybe Improved Shield Bash

Enhancements to focus on:
WF Tactics
Fighter Trip
Fighter Str
WF Con
Fighter Toughness

Any tips or other ideas? I've just started messing about with this.

This is the build I'm currently messing about with. It is a total focus on non-blocking DR with intimidate thrown in there as well. Its a tactical fighter, built to put mobs down with maneuvers and thus misses out on the last Armor mastery upgrade. I am part of a guild that runs quite a few good warforged repairs so the healers friend of course was left out.

The ranger levels confuse some, but I used it as a way to buff my saves and AC vs rust monsters (and also Beholders and mind flayers). Of course the new changes to hidden enemies makes the ranger search/spot skills very useful for this build as well.

I made a warforged fighter paladin who will have dr 8 by 14.

Here's the build, in brief.

Basically take paladin 3 or 4 (I did 4) then fighter from then on to 14.

Level 1: Adamantine body
Level 3: Improved Damage Reduction
Level 4 (fighter) weapon focus: slashing
Level 6 (fighter) dodge
Level 6 Improved Damage Reduction
Level 8 (fighter) Combat Expertise
Level 9 Improved Damage Reduction
Level 10 (fighter) Improved critical (slashing)
Level 12 (fighter) greater weapon focus: slashing
Level 12 Improved Damage Reduction
Level 14 Improved Trip

For Enhancements, take extra lay of hands, and take all the damage reduction buffs.

Make sure to have 13 intelligence by level 8, and a 13 dex at level 6.

You will be able to hit (with max bonus equipment) ac of 45 by level 9, using a tower shield and combat expertise, potion of barkskin +3, and get up to a 47 if you can hit dex 16 with items, and take tower shield mastery 2, armor mastery 3.

I suggest lay of hands and a cha bonus item too, with a fair charisma, giving you 2 lay of hands for about 70 hit points.

This will end up with a dr 8 warforged fighter, armor class around 47, and the ability to heal yourself. Get your self a fortitude item and you will in fact rock.

Just make a WF Barbarian and max out his DR with the Boost as well. You could hit over a 20 DR standing boosted up.

Fairly certain they don't stack.
