Okay, since the previous version of this went bye-bye, I'm reposting this thread for the three of us who read the book and actually want to TALK about it to be able to do so. :)

I loved the part where Voldermort drank the goblet of House Elf Blood and then threw up on Hermione.

I am curious as to what from the book'll end up in the movie version. Granted that the books grow over time, could we possibly see something not in the PG range.

Yeah. For example, they took out most of the stuff with Kreacher in Order, well all of it, really, he just makes an appearance. They also took out all of the stuff about house cleaning, which is when they discover the locket. Still, I'm sure there is a work around for that.

So how will that factor into the last book, where Kreacher becomes more important. After all he does lead the charge of the Hogwarts House Elves.

I do expect some of the final chapters to be cut down, but hopefully, a good 1/3 of the movie will be about the final battle, because that is so important. A lot happens. And considering that much of the middle of the book is about them wandering and such.

Still, if they go along the same route as Order, it should be a good battle and such.

Well, the majority of the camping chapters could be culled to about one minute on-screen - thinking montage-type thing. The visit to Godric's Hollow could be chopped to around 5 minutes or even excised completely (much of what was learned there could easily be incorporated elsewhere or left out entirely).

As much as I despise losing ANYTHING from a good book, I think they did a decent job with OotP's film version. Not stellar, but decent.

Here is another interview with JK in which she answers even more questions, including Sheky's about a person discovering magical talent late in life. A bit disappointed about that answer, but some other good info here.

HA that was a great read.

My boss had this flaw, which I shot down. Why didn't the part of Voldermorts soul in Harry get destroyed when he was posioned by the basalisk?

I explained that a soul in a nonliving object is different then a soul in a living creature. Also, he didn't die, he lived, which is rather important in releasing the part of the soul.

You hit on the real reason - Harry himself didn't die. His soul remained intact, so so did Voldemort's "soul octoon".

Yeah, she couldn't understand this. You don't destroy the soul, you destroy the vessel, and therefor, that part of the soul can move onto...where ever it goes.

So long as a part of the persons soul is on this realm, in one way or another, the last part doesn't leave. So when V first tried to kill Harry, and it instead destroyed Voldermort, he was reduced to a mean little spirit, wandering the world. Because the other parts of his soul, anchored him to this world.

Once those were gone, then that last bit wouldn't have any ties to this world.

So, basilisk vendom (or fiendfyre, or the sword) doesn't destroy the part of the soul in the Horcrux, it destroyes the Horcrux, which allows the part of the soul to pass on.

Semi-necro. Finally finished the book (hate sharing a copy with other people...), so missed all of the discussion from the first thread. I know Shecky is gone, but the thread lives on. ;)

P.S. Dane, when your boss is just barely starting understanding horcruxes, throw in phylacteries. :p

She just isn't the brightest person. She is assumes very easy about a lot of things.

Shecky can at least read the forums and says "hi". :)

And I strongly suspect that JKR based horcruxes on phylacteries... ;)
