Launcher hangs on connecting

So, yesterday I replaced a few parts in my computer, including the HDD. So, naturally, I needed to reinstall a whole bunch of things. Fun times ensued, finally got steam installed, and then installed DDO through steam. Once installation finished, I tried to log in and update the game, but whenever I open the launcher, it just hangs on the connecting portion. It will sit there with a waiting status for about 5 minutes or so, then gives me a failed to connect error with a 1 minute countdown to retry. It repeated this process for about 7 hours last night while I slept. This morning, I tried some various fixes and none of them have worked so far. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling .net framework and the SP1 for it, directX, microsoft visual c++ redist, I have added the four .exe files to my firewall exception list, I have tried turning off my firewall, I tried turning off the proxy settings for my browser (firefox) and for the launcher itself, (note here: the launcher proxy setting is reset to use windows internet options proxy settings), I tried flushing my DNS, I turned off the UAC settings, tried running as admin before and after turning off UAC. I think that is just about everything that I have tried so far. I am fairly confident that it is not an internet issue, as I can post here and play random internet games, and I don't think it is my computer as I have since installed and successfully played Torchlight 2 via steam as well. About the only thing I haven't tried yet is a complete uninstall and reinstall of DDO, because that will take me about 8 hours, and I did do a file verification on steam which reported that all files had downloaded successfully.

UPDATE 2/10: So, still no idea what the problem actually is, but I am now sure that the problem lies with the steam version of the client. I have now successfully downloaded, installed, updated, and logged into DDO using the client download from ddo.com. So, in short, the steam version of the DDO client is currently borked in some form or another, at least with a fresh install. The ddo.com version of the client, downloaded with pando media booster, is working correctly.

I am having the exact same issue I have tried redownloading 3 times today and it has not fixed the issue as well as playing with firewall settings. However I had the game working just 2 days ago. Why is this happening? Please let me know if you find a fix

same issue, reformatted today installed steam and ddo had issue with not having .net v1 so got that now hanging on conneting.

my laptop connects fine, but the fresh install wont.

i hadnt installed the hotfix for .net v1 so i hoped that would fix the issue but alas it didnt, still stuck on connecting.

Ever since I installed Windows updates my launcher hangs for about a min, so annoying. :mad:

i deleted the steam version going to try the standard downloader from this site.

So, since Turbine has gone out of there way to comment on this issue, I have decided to take their advice and uninstall the game. Seriously though, I have uninstalled the steam version and am currently downloading through pando media booster (shudder), I will post again when I am done and let people know if it worked for me or not.

I too am having this issue. I started with the high res download, reinstalled once, then tried the steam version. Same issue from all 3.

I'm having this issue as well...was having an "opening main form" hanging issue, then after a week it turned into a waiting at connection suddenly after logging out and trying to log back into a gaming session. I downloaded nothing new, added no new hardware, same isp, everything. I went ahead already and uninstalled ddo and re-installed (ddo.com version first and second time) and am still having this issue.

I even went into the faqs and did everything they told me to do for the "main form" issue and the "waiting at connection" issue and now i'm submitting a ticket for further assistance...time to download another game i guess.

May I suggest that if you'd like help with your connection problem, create a new message thread in here so the users reading this forum can separate out each persons issue and help each person individually.

Also, in addition to some people reporting problems with Steam installation that are solved by deleting the steam installation and reinstalling from the DDO site, there have also been messages in this forum about using cell phone connectivity, that has special issues that may not always support the protocols DDO needs or may need adjusting to do so. Forgive me, I am no expert in cell phone internet connectivity, but there have been posts in these forums about it.

So my recommendation when people have a problem connecting is that they mention whether it is a Steam installation or not and if its a cell phone based connection which Cell Phone company/ISP.

1. in the DOS command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns
2. change your DNS to Google's DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

You can also try to launch TurbineInvoker.exe in your DDO folder in Program Files.

This stuff will not harm your computer.

Good idea, I see where you're going with that. I just tried, still no luck. Looking at this forum there's a number of other people with the same issue. I'm guessing it's more likely a problem on Turbine's side.

Actually, when it is something like this, 90% of the time is the player's side of things. Firewalls being the primary cause. The problem is to really see, the players have to figure out where the ddo logs are located and read though to figure out where the stop is happening. Or post those logs here so we can take a better guess. There was quite an influx of comcast people having issues here, and all because of 2 firewalls being installed on their PC and they didn't know about it. So while the windows one was letting things through just fine, the other one was blocking.

Add into it, different windows versions, steam vs. pando, where you have both installed, .NET issues....

Hmm, well I'm not a Comcast user, and DDO was working fine for me about a month after they added the Underdark content. I have not changed my ISP since it was working. Where is the log file for the launcher? I'm guessing it's trying to contact the patch servers. Do you know the address of the patch servers?

Yes, that's quite true, but when a large portion of the player base runs into an issue where there wasn't one before... do you think they all happened to make the wrong change simultaneously?

There's been a massive spike in this particular issue over the past couple of days, and nobody's got a definitive answer yet.

DDO used to run fine on my sons Win7 PC and yesterday when we started it up (after many months of not playing) the launcher stuck at connecting. We have reinstalled both DDO and .Net and the issue persists.

This is not a Steam install either, it was from a DDO downloaded install which is the same that runs fine on my Win7 PC.

So we have 2 PCs in the same house using the same Network, the same updated version of Win7, .Net and the same DDO install pack. One is working fine the other sticks at connect.

The only difference I can so far come up with is that my copy of DDO had been used regularly and is thus often updated, a new, or older install will clearly need an update off the bat.

Please can we have an official comment on this?

Not connecting issue

Hello all,

I have previously previously posted with problems caused by the parser...I beleive. Just wasn't updating property and never getting me into the game. I received som great ideas on things to try, but alas, it didn't work and I simply uninstalled the game.

A couple weeks later I'm back at it again....I miss DDO! I reinstalled the game and now I don't get to complain about not being able to update because I can't connect at all. I have been trying to determine if it's the .net system or something else. I have win 7 now and have tried alot of the fixes with firewalls and such posted on the turbine website. Here is my launcher log. Maybe something stands out to someone else hopefully?

My ISP uses a proxy server. In order to install the preliminary software for the game at get the newscenter, etc. I have to switch over to the proxy setting up DDO. I have recently added the proxy setting into IE so I can just use IE settings in the game...lesss work that way. Anyway, always looking for new ideas to get into the game.
