careless master for wolf please

i understand thematically why druids don't have careless master but mechanically it completely sucks i get nailed every time my wolf dies. i generally don't even pop it out on elite quests for fear it will suck away my hp/sp at a bad moment.

thinking of it thematically druids are neutral. they believe in the natural order. nature says sometimes things die. so let's make that an enhancement please. i'm tired of my wolf companion being responsible for my deaths. call it survival of the fittest or something.

And while we're at it, lets get some dog armor! Maybe one of those "please do not pet me" vests that seeing-eye dogs wear.

yeah, the dog seems super squishy compared to the arti defender.

Or at least fix that dismiss pet button :)

You are aware that there are very, very few decent Leather Armors that are actually useful for the Wolf, correct?

Ideally we need a Light Armor version of the Leaves of the Forest.

The druid wolf pet can actually use any non metal medium of light armor (in other words the armor Leaves of the Forest is useable for pet [confirmed it myself])

Can they still use their evasion (from enhancements) if they're wearing medium armor?

There really are very few armours available when you think about it.

Hide of the Gorristo isn't terrible but has a bit of a fatal flaw. Where's the Heavy Fort?

We all know (or should do at least) that Heavy Fort at the minimum is not optional unless you like dying of course. :P

Of the named epic Light Armours nearly all of them are metal and unusable by the Wolf. Of the few that aren't? They're from Sands...*shudder*

Even looking at Medium Armour the story isn't much better.

Best of the lot is Leaves of the Forest. Gives Heavy Fort and depending on the level of the item it also gives a percentage of Exceptional Fort. Downside is it's Medium so no Evasion for the lil Wolf.

Then there's Terrorweb Chitin. No Heavy Fort so the poor wolf gets critted a lot and Medium so no Evasion.


Basically all we can get is Canith Crafted or lootgen which for epic levels just feels...blah.

Really? Your wolf is squishy?

Do you buff him, armor him, use the mass druid summons/pet buffs, ship buffs, augment summons, treat wisdom like your main stat, give him death ward, spider skin, ele buffs?

If you don't do all this... no wonder. Even without armor my wolf isn't squishy. He's a beast (no pun intended). He's got better stats than most players I group with (or me!)

My wolf only dies when I do something really stupid like neglect him or run him through elite/epic traps. In fact since I've been playing druid, I can count the number of times he's died on my fingers. Just about every time it sure wasn't the wolf, druid class or turbine's fault. It was always mine.

I have _no_ idea where all this druid pet malaise is coming from. The only way I can see it is if you haven't built your druid right to be using pets.

This is ok! Play your druid whatever way floats your boat. However if your pet ends up squishy because you didn't build to make him tough (a perfectly valid build choice!), simply don't summon him. Leave him in your pocket. Don't make a squishy pet then complain when he dies because you didn't do anything to make him tougher... It's counter productive. What's more is how tough he is is totally under your control. It's like complaining that your car is black because you bought a black one instead of a red one. If you want a red one, buy the red one!

Without posting your build, a complaint that your pet is squishy (as though it's a class problem) is completely invalid. Post your build so we can help you solve the problem ;)

I don't even care anymore if my dogs dies. In fact, I chuckle every time it does, call PETA if you want.

As far as not building my druid to buff my dog, yeah right!

I can change my name to Dar but that still won't stop that
retarded dog from humping the exp. shrine when I tell it grab the sonic buff,
attack things (which he seems to have a hard time doing), or just plain dying
by monsters or traps.

I find it humorous when I go to spend enchantments points on my dog and the trainer tells me
that I must summon my dog.

I have no trouble keeping my wolf alive, but then again, i have played heales, so i have learned to look at whatever is in my party every now and again. Buffing your wolf IS a good idea, even if it means you use up some of your mana on it. Even my caster can manage to fight its way to the next shrine in wolf form, especially when helped by the trusty wolf that people fear to get out.

i buff my wolf, my main is a cleric, i know how to heal and fight while watching hp bars. that said i actually have to watch my wolf. he's currently in crafted leather with lifeblock and invulnerability of the highest tier i can put on a lvl 16.

and even with all that he dies any time i take my attention off him. MAYBE it's because i'm commonly solo'ing and have no group with me to split the aggro. i certainly know it's not operator error or neglect, he just seems to bite off more than he can chew. I gave him all the sneak attack options and i regularly hit intimidate (i'm a bear druid), i keep him in guard mode not aggressive. so i can't identify anything other than that, compared to my arti pet which i almost never even pay attention to anymore (just hit aggressive and watch him tear into things), my wolf pet seems squishy.

i'm also saying i find i'm often (when solo'ing) in a life or death fight with a mob and my wolf kicks it and that essentially instantly kills me, and if it doesn't kill me the loss of several hundred sp i would have used for healing really hurts. so i'd really like that enhancement mr. dev.

Careless master on a druid pet would be wrong. I know no one cares about role playing, but it is the basis of the game.

It would be nice to have a "heel" command, to prevent the dog from running off and attacking stuff when it's clearly a stupid idea. That would end 90% of the deaths at higher levels for people that pay any attention to their pet. I would say that the AI should know when he's outnumbered and hurt and have him choose to stay close. But that ain't going to happen. He'd probably just stand in lave and whine.

I tend to summon them when I need them, and let 'em go when the going gets really rough. That's about the closest thing there is to any control over his actions. It's very situational, but as the levels increase, the tendency to die quickly raises, so the pet is around less and less.

Umm.. you know that you can tell it to stay and go passive, or just defend, in which case it wont go far

My wolf is pretty much bait.

He's summoned, then sent into a group of bad guys to draw their fire while I annihilate them. Then repeat until *ding*

The way I look at it, every point of damage the pet takes is less I have to heal myself or others. The penalty for him dying doesn't seem like much when compared to how much punishment he takes.

Granted, there are other, pet friendlier methods for adventuring, but I don't feel too bad about watching those pixels evaporate while doing their job. ;)
