Diary of a PD Solo-only crazy person.
NOTE: I am actively working on this again. Best so far is level 8 (just past leveling up, forgot to get exact xp count, calling it 270,000)
Currently Level 4 - 2 Paladin, 2 Sorc(rest going sorc)
I will kept updating the top half of this post to provide a cliff's notes version for the curious.
Attempt #10 will be a different build, same rules except AH is allowed, but largely irrelevant, since it will be a long time before I can make use of it. Totally separate economy though.
I have to say that this is a fun experiment, perfectly suited for my wildly variable playing time. If I am able to consistently play, I shall look at running in a PD group IF (not sayign when) this last experiment fails. I think it makes me a better player, also, having to make it work with terrible gear, an undominant build and having to start all over if something goes wrong.
Hey all. I got tired of prestiging MW3, and Skyrim was fun but...I still like DDO. So, I'm back. I work from home now, which is awesome. I decided that solo play will be best for most of my playing time (while working) so I thought I'd do something new (for me) and ardently try to cap a solo permadeath character while recording the process and posting new ideas I have as I go along. I will post a dairy here, and update most everyday I run her. Daybroke Almanem, re-rolled from a character of the same name minutes ago.
11 17 14 16 8 8
I will not multi-class.
I will not twink.
I will not use even my own earned money on AH (which really sucks since no vendors have anything really due to crafting so when I need a specific deathblock or such item, it's gonna suck.
I will not run a quest a second time on the same difficulty.
I will not run below level (chains I am doing as long as ANY part of the chain qualifies).
I will not use hirelings, beyond lever pulling. (I will likely dual box the lever puller, and take no additional actions.
Daybroke descends from the ship to go off to Korthos. Oh happy day. Well, enough writing, time to play.
Made level 3, not bad for being at work lol
Cannith on hard went so well I decided to do Village on elite, and forgo xp from hards. Huul Eyx got me down to 15 hps. Dirty Bastige. Side Note: Watching Russian music videos is not good for DDO chars’s health. WOW. Ended collab with 16 hit points left, got dicey for a moment. Did the circuit on the island on hard, got a rune arm, goggles of insight pathfinder boots…something else. Heading to harbor to do lighthouse and info on hard, then the solo quests. If I still haven’t made level 3, I will knock out some more level 2s on hard to keep my streak alive. Info and Lighthouse did it, Lighthouse got hairy for a bit, work was very busy (I clocked out while in there still) and that fire mephit gained a lot of health back. I level up, adding Point Blank shot to the resume along with Cat’s Grace (+2 to hit will be damn welcome) Elven dex (getting me to 18, and making the Dex with cat’s grave 22, or +3 mod better) and Artificer intel. Niko took reinforced armor, and has 90 hitpoints to my 49. I’ve picked up two 1 pt improvements in armor, and have over 200 plat before deconstructing and going ahead and buying some wands/pots.
My die roll was not reflecting what I “should” have as my attack value, which has been a pain. Missing isn’t very good. I hope I can find ANYTHING for sale with a vendor besides consumables that I can use, but I highly doubt it. Ah well, made it to level 3. Now that I’m off work, I’ll do some maintenance, then level up another character’s pet (since I know how) and maybe run other toons.
Another attempt - I make 3
I build PD character #5 of this experiment (fourth WF) a little different 8-18-16-16-6-6. I’m building him for ranged. Augment Summoning level 1 feat, then I will take PBS, Rapid shot. If I get to 6, I will decide then where to go. You might notice not hearing about the one right before him. See, I had a family issue come up (real one this time, wife needed me to take son and put him into crib) so after killing the ice flenser in Misery, I park my guy at the shrine and well...mobs killed him while I was afk. Sucks, but that shiz counts in my book.
I’m running him differently to. Not drastically, but still. I’m running Kortos village normal and then normal runs of Redemption and Sacrifices. Then Leveling to two, running Cannith crystal on hard, Misery Elite, Village and island elite. The reason is I could use the bless/bonus hp clickies, I want it over as soon as possible, and having pathfinder set after only one elite dovetails nicely with everything and should make for quick work. I just made a 2 AM run to the store for formula so….single people, this is your safe sex reminder. Be safe out there.
Decent loot pulls: +1 str belt collaborator elite, +1 cloak resistance redemption elite, ring of disabling +3 sacrifices elite.
Korthos notes: mad at the afk death, I take it out on mobs. Stopping elite I crit fail 2/3 of the traps, getting one at the end, which means I can jump to one side and hopefully be safe. Pretty standard runs, running to final on island, I hit level. After finishing, I have to knock out the solo harbor quests and proceed to level 3.
LEVEL UP NOTES (level 3)
Feat: Point Blank Shot
Spell: Cat’s Grace
Aps (Daybroke) Damage boost, skill boost, repair manipulation, improved rune arm use.
(Niko) Reinforced armor.
Standard run to market and inscribe repair moderate (and some others), grab bags (Korthos and ingredient and sell/repair/deconstruct) I opt to get full stacks of 1,000 of spell components and 150 masterwork thieves’ tools. I resolve to have to buy more before burying this former espresso machine. Speaking of espresso…I’m on a juice fast. My wife just told me coffee is allowed or she’s sleeping at her moms. Better go fill up lol.
Guild information, for the curious
NOTE ON GUILD POLICY
I have a guild of me and my two accounts. At this point I’ve made 100% of the levels myself, and still don’t have a ship. When I get one, I will use it. There is a possibility of allowing others into the guild, but not an goal, if you see me refer to a guild buff/item that the PD character loots and crafts, etc. Don’t be surprised.
Question: Don’t like the idea of using a guild buff on your permadeath characters?
Answer: Don’t use one.
I roll and run my characters as it makes sense for me, and I appreciate everyone's ability to do the same.
