Preface: This is to help new players with info that is pretty basic for us but very useful (and sometimes funny :) )

This is a PSA!
FO means Finish Out. (as in the quest is complete)
It does not mean "Eff" Off.
Do not be offended if someone tells you to FO.

I'm hereby coining the phrase for people with low to-hit as "COWS". Since they'll be grazing all day.
So if you get called a cow, its not cause you're fat.

HELP YOURSELF
Run "Dirk's Got a Secret" (Leaky Dinghy / Harbor: Den of the Kobold Brothers) until you get at least 1 "Muckbane" to save your main weapons from breaking all the time when fighting slimes.
Muckbane - (Weapon) +1 Club, Lesser Ooze Bane, (made from glass) (Muck's Chest)
*Spoiler Map* He's at the very bottom of the map, does not spawn everytime.

remember when rolling up a new alt. you may not have a feather fall item permanently equiped yet. Jumping of the harbor wall to run to the leaky dingy may result in serious injury.
BEWARE
The "/death count" command will show you how many times your character has died.
This is a false statement, use at your own risk! LOL

Ok so...your next newbie lesson:
Many items DO NOT stack.
Example 1: +1 Dex Boots and +2 Dex Ring doesn't = +3 Dex
Example 2: +1 Protection Ring and +1 Protection Cloak doesn't = +2 Protection
Example 3: +1 Resistance Ring and +1 Resistance Cloak doesn't = +2 Resistance
Also Note: Stat buffs like Bears Endurance, Bulls Str, Eagles Splendor (that give +4 to your stat) do not stack with Stat items. If you have +2 Str gloves and Bulls Str cast on you, you'll only gain +2 from the spell. Once you get +4 or higher ITEMS, the buff is useless.
These are common misconceptions for someone new to this game (yes, even I thought this was true when I first started :D )
ALSO...Every 2 points to a stat (assuming you're even) will give you a +1 to your modifier (used for saves, skills, attack...)
LOCKED ITEMS
If you want to make sure you dont accidentally sell you're items:
Open your Inventory (default "I" button)
Just ABOVE the Weapon Sets (the green boxes) and to bottom right corner of your inventory is a tiny Lock.
Click the item you want to lock, then click the open lock icon and it should change to a closed lock.
Hi there. Is there any fix for a Muckbane that has mysteriously lost its "lesser ooze bane"? I tired reporting the issue but I got the "there is no fix as this is not a known issue" response. I know that it is, because I have heard tell of other gimped Muckbanes. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.Quote:

A few things to know about quest rewards.
1) If you aren't getting a wide variety of items: Open the Options window (default button "O"), Click the Gameplay button on the right, and uncheck class based rewards. This will have no bearing on your chest loot.
2) Some quests (usually quest chains / raids) have "named" loot. You will be given a list to choose from. It is a randomly generated list that has a mix of named loot and other stuff. If you dont get what you want, run the chain again and you might get lucky :) . Here is a list by Dragon.Star of all the named loot associated with quests.
3a) Weapons & Armor can be upgraded every EVEN level
3b) Clothing & Jewelry can be upgraded every ODD level
INVEST IN CON :)
Dont use Con as a dump stat no matter what. Your Wiz needs HP just as much as that Barb, just because you aren't "in combat" doesn't mean you aren't going to get hit. Even as early as Shan-To-Kor in the Marketplace, you'll get agro from Rangers and Casters...or that Ogre decides to do his Triple attack and accidently catches you with one.
12 Base is a good minimum for anyone, but especially when first learning the game.
You'll appreciate it later, and your group-mates will too!

FAVOR
Favor is aquired by completing quests.
You get the most favor by completing a quest on Elite.
Favor from one quest does not stack. (I.E. If you get 4 on Normal, 8 on Hard, 12 on Elite...you dont have 24 favor for that quest, only 12) Highest Applies.
You can view your Favor by pushing "P" by default. The first tab is the quest list that can be sorted multiple ways. The second tab show the total favor and favor for what "agency". By hovering the mouse over the bar, you can see how much you have. Once the yellow bar is full, you'll get an in-game e-mail from an agent that you need to talk to to collect your reward.
Most people focus on Coinlords (for inventory bags..max 5) or House K (extra bank bags..max 3) to start with.

BUYING STACKS
A "stack" is the max. amount of a single item you can carry in one inventory slot. Most things stack to 100.
Buying a stack of potions or spell components requires a TON of clicking right?
Nope, just hold down CTRL and click the item. A box will open and you can type in how many you want! Save your mouse AND your finger. :D
VOICE CHAT
Some of you may be coming from a game that doesn't have a Voice Chat, or have never used 3rd party voice chat (Ventrilo, Xfire, etc..).
Voice chat is VERY helpful when running quests, but for the love of all that is good...please, PLEASE use the Push-To-Talk option. Nobody wants to hear you eating chips, yelling at your dog (or significant other), the tv in the background, your phone conversation ,OR your heavy breathing for the duration of a quest. :eek:

GETTING XP
To get the most XP, here is a list of how to get bonuses:
First time run "at level" for Normal (meaning doing a level 2 quest at level 2). You can also run quests that are 1 level below your without penalty.
Normal +25%
Hard +25%
Elite +50%
After 3 completions you'll start losing -10% XP each time you complete.
Some people run on Normal until they get the -10%, then run Hard / Elite because you'll still get the first time bonus.
Extra bonuses are (at max):
Monsters Killed = Conquest +25%
-No Monsters Killed = Insidious Cunning +10%
Breakables = Ransack +15%
Traps Disabled = Ingenious Dibilitation +15%
Secret Doors = Vigilant Sight +15%
No Deaths = Flawless +10% (Mod 9)
No Re-Entry = Persistance +10% (Mod 9)
Running Delera's Tomb + Necromancer quest chain, you can get a trinket (Voice Of The Master) that gives a +5% bonus as well. Doesn't have to be on the whole quest, just remember to put on before completion :) You can also get the cloak (Mantle of the Worldshaper) from the Threnal chain that also has +5% bonus but together they dont stack (you do however get True Seeing when both are equipped.
What you need to do is find a balance where the reward of XP+Loot > Time Spent. Some quests give better XP for less time. Some are pretty easy, even on Elite. Just find what works for you.
Some quests in the Harbor that can be quick with great XP are:
Information is Key - Wayward Lobster
Kobolds New Ringleader - Guard Jung
Dirks Got A Secret - Leaky Dinghy
Waterworks (4 quest chain) - The Steam Tunnels
GO BIG!
It's a really really good idea to take the Great Axe(s) as your tutorial weapon, especially as a Wizard / Sorc. Most classes wont be proficiant, but you wont have too terrible of a time hitting anything in those low quests. As a Wiz, you can also take Master's Touch as one of your spells and you'll be proficient for the duration of the quest.
Low level casters need to rely more on melee than casting, since your mana pool will be very very small. If you run out of mana, you'll be dead in the water if you cant put out some melee.
This may not be what everyone will agree with, but many people know this little trick and it makes blasting through those Korthos mobs much easier :D. Once you get off the island or get a better grip on how to manage your mana better, you can start finding weapons/items that improve your spell damage and spend more time casting!
