The Dragonmarked Houses

You will have many encounters with the noble factions known as the Dragonmarked Houses. Originating from the neighboring continent of Khorvaire, the Dragonmarked Houses were instrumental in funding the city of Stormreach, and have a strong presence in Xen’drik. Each of the Houses is known for manifesting a particular Dragonmark which grants them special powers. The houses are said to be able to trace their lineage all the way back to the first families that manifested the marks thousands of years ago.

Dragonmarks are elaborate skin patterns - like birthmarks - but more colorful, and very distinctive. They grant their bearers powerful magic abilities that have been a source of power and conflict for centuries. Nobody knows the origins of Dragonmarks or when and why they appear, yet some of the citizens of Stormreach have recently begun to manifest these strange and powerful markings.

There are twelve families of Dragonmarks, each one associated with a number of closely related manifestations. A thirteenth mark, the Mark of Death, has faded from history, and no living creature on Eberron carries it.

Dragonmarks manifest in several forms of potency: Least, Lesser, Greater, and finally, Siberys. Each comes with more power than the last, and they can appear anytime between adolescence and into adulthood. Each Dragonmark type appears among the members of one large extended family; however, not all members of that family are marked. These families have grown to be the Dragonmarked houses.

Each of the Dragonmarked houses specializes in a service, usually related to the abilities granted by its associated mark. In Dungeons & Dragons Online, you’ll meet several of these noble houses, including:
  • House Kundarak
  • House Jorasco
  • House Deneith
  • House Phiarlan
  • House Orien
  • And more!
