DDOCast 386 - Challenges

Dev Posts - Mon, 06/15/2015 - 16:07
---Quote (Originally by whereispowderedsilve)--- 2 Questions that I hope Cordovan or any developer or anybody can address(huge pet peeves of mine, HUGE!): #1. In the next *2* years will we ever see that House C Challenges go up to CR30 from CR25 to match their Eveningstar counterparts? (and if not *why* not?) #2. Will we ever see in the next *2* years for the House C Challenges an Epic mat to base mat trade in/conversion? (For example I have 1000 epic magma shards, I want to trade them in for so & so much heroic/base magma shards). (This is slightly mitigated by being able to roll up an Iconic, but imo, still needed at some point in time). (and if not *why* not?). Hope those 2 points are clear & well articulated. I've quit DDO since June 2014 & and stopped spending any cash/money on Turbine for many, many, many reasons which I don't want to go into here, this is one of them. (However I do read the forums every day & read every single dev post & Lama dev post). Keep up the great work Patrick! Cheers! :P! :)! :D! ---End Quote--- We do not have any current plans to further expand House Cannith Challenges up to CR 30. We are aware of the challenge players face in getting the ingredients for base items while running their Epic level characters (it was mentioned on the show.) A conversion recipe would have to be prioritized as we do other bugs and features, but would certainly assist in addressing the issue.

Wouldn't it make sense for Turbine to put out a Iconic class for every race?

Dev Posts - Mon, 06/15/2015 - 13:24
---Quote (Originally by Hammertop)--- There really is no way for anyone of us who doesn't work for DDO, to speculate on resources issues with any kind of accuracy. So without being privy to that type confidential and highly privileged information all of us can only go on what we all have seen go live, and proposed by the developers. And what have we seen of late? a huge amount when you look at it. Recently in just the last six months we have been treated to a feast of output by the team, and that buffet of content would include some fairly in-depth class passes, a entirely new class that includes 3 full trees, new attack animations, new feats, new spells, a entire new crossbow animation overhaul, the implementation of a long awaited ranged power system along with modified feats, not to mention the steady release of content including the largest dungeon ever produced by turbine. And in just this past 2 weeks the team has begun sharing some of the ideas they have to give spell casters a boost in Epic content. That is a awful lot of content, work, output and resource allocation when you look at it, so I can't see how it is a issue of resources that is preventing any future Iconics, because the evidence we have indicates that is not the case. Instead the evidence tends to indicate that it is a deliberative choice made within the office of Turbine for editorial or philosophical reasons rather than resources. The good news it that means that members of the community who choose to, can make the case for more Iconics to Turbine management without feeling like it is a "lost cause" or could never happen. This is because appealing to philosophical and theme based decisions management and the producer have made so far has a much higher chance of success than contending with a problem of a game under a limited resources regime, which is clearly not the case for DDO when we look at the last 6 months. ---End Quote--- You raise some interesting thoughts. Ultimately, if the community as a whole provided us with the feedback that they would prefer we focus on making new Iconics rather than, say, new classes, races, systems (enhancements, epic destinies, crafting, etc.) then we would listen to that feedback when it came time to decide "what folks want us to work on." So far I don't know that we've seen that feedback in a way that would push the creation of Iconics above other priorities described above, but it's always something we are open to considering. Just to pull back the curtain a bit: Game development is - always - a matter of managing limited resources. Even if those resources are extensive, there's always more "would be cool ifs" than there are available work hours. Ultimately, we have to decide what to prioritize based on numerous factors, including community sentiment, financial concerns, retention efforts, new player acquisition, making sure we're letting our developers exercise their best skills, competitive factors, and the list goes on and on. Community desire is clearly one of the top priorities, but it's rare that there's one top priority; it's far more likely that there are a cluster of priorities a particular development effort will address, and it gets pushed to the top of the list because of it.

Trend: Store Freebie

Dev Posts - Mon, 06/15/2015 - 13:08
---Quote (Originally by UurlockYgmeov)--- Lasting Potion of Bull's Might - buff12; this weeks freebie is again bound to character. What is going on with this trend? Just oversight I hope. ---End Quote--- Definitely not something intended. I'm having them check into it. *Generally* these types of buff potions in the Store should be Bound to Account. Having them do a san check on the potion settings, and in the meantime will double check the bind states on the items before including them in the free samples.

Yeah, your forum handle can be different from the username that you use to log into the game. I don't actually see any ticket in our queue with your info on it, so that would be why you have not received a response. When a ticket is submitted, you should receive an auto-response email that contains your ticket number and some info for follow-up. If you managed to log into the MyAccount site and subscribe to VIP, you want to use that same username and password information to log into the game and access your VIP content. If something went awry, you accidentally upgraded the wrong account, or have more questions about it, PM me and I can set up a ticket for you.
