Greetings, We wanted to create a follow up thread to see how players are doing with their barbarians. We wanted to get impressions of the tree changes now that people have had time to play with them on live for a bit. Game balance and quality is an ongoing process. We don't want players to feel that changes we make will never be revisited. We are looking specifically for feedback on how the three barbarian trees are working for you. We are looking for your thoughts on Occult Slayer, Frenzied Berserker, and Ravager. Are they fun? Do the trees seem effective? How do you feel barbarian compares to other classes? Sev~

While we want these tactics to be effective for builds that are built to use them, the current situation makes too many feats and gearing options irrelevant because anyone can use the abilities and no one has a need for the enhancements or gear that adds to the effectiveness of the option. Champions were not simply to add difficulty. It would have been much easier and much more straightforward to just increase overall damage and mitigation across the board if we wanted to do that. Champions actually have a more complicated design goal in that we want them to add variability to quests. Rather than expounding on that, let me give you an example. I was running through the first druid adventure out of Eveningstar - Thorn and Claw I think is the name - yesterday. Normally the quest pacing is increased for each corrupted druid then then it culminates in a fight with the final druid and a giant dire bear den mother. The adventure is fun, but when you run through it multiple times the interesting bits are predictable. When I ran it yesterday, however, I happened to hit a pair of champion dire bears that I managed to attract and they ended up providing an unexpected spike of challenge where I had to scramble a bit to keep myself and my henchman safe. (Before you say it, yes this particular character is not what I would call a power build.) This made that particular run through of the content different than how the adventure usually runs. That provided more memorable and interesting bits of adventure then the actual druid/dire bear ending. While this might not be the most exciting story for our players, the fact that the interesting bits of the adventure can vary from run to run is one of the goals of the system, and one we'd like to continue to pursue. I think the biggest issue is that currently Hirelings won't stay put when you tell them to stay and they are in defensive mode. You can put them into passive mode, which means they won't defend against melee or heal themselves, or have them run around everytime they (or you) get attacked. This is less than ideal and probably the biggest issue we see with them. We are looking into this. Sev~
